Given a choice between HR and Marketing, which one would you choose?

both the specialization has its own important..given a choice i would prefer to go for marketing as it is more adventurous..gets to learn more...initially we have field work but then its more about how creative you are...as its from where u get money..u would be able to fetch money for the company right....

unfortunatly i did my MBA ... in systems..

Both HRM and Marketing are required in the market. But every one have to go in a specialized field keeping in view of his/her interest.

well guys frankly sayin , i am a student of Icfai business school & have completed my mba in both these fields..

we usualy say we want to go for marketing of HR, but both these field are huge, marketing has different subjects like retail, brand, service, sales & distribution & even HR on the other hand has subjects like T&D, Global HRM, Leadership, etc...

so its you who has to decide which is your strong point & accordingly you could select your electives, now colleges are also helping you to specialize in both the fields...

thanks & Regards

AKash

it depends on your interest and personality attributes , an introvert might have an interest in both but he will face problems in both. so,it boils down to your interest, personality factors and long term goal in life

first & foremost let me correct you guys, HR does nt necessary has to have a science back ground, it could be from any field... & second about the good salaries in HR is also wrong, i mean u have good options in the future if you perform well, but initially the packages are quite low, for marketing well its nt necessary to have sales initially, there are options like brand building, brand equity, etc... many more...

finally going with Marketing.
it appears to me as a very multidisciplinary domain wherein all aspects of your graduation and mba expertise can come into full use.
HR seems to me as a space focused with documentation , headhunting and record keeping which didnt really appeal to me.

hie.....
i m hiten gohil frm mumbai.........
i feel marketing is a better option than HR........
der is a grter scope in it.......

well i guess marketing is a right job for a person to get exposed. even HR is good but marketing is the one. if u have a talent for selling any given product, u will b welcomed any where. i as a businessman, will give a huge amount of salary if i c tht talent in tht person. most over, there is a real problem of skilled workforce in marketing in india, soo there is a huge gap if u doing MBA n entering even as a mere sales person

it all depends on ya interest

if someone is good at marketing, he will go for marketing and vice cersa for finance...like i did not like HR subjects but liked marketing subjects so i went ahead with marketing........

Hi everyone.
Given a choice I would first go for a general MBA. At the end of the MBA, for the last 6 months or 3 months I would take up HR. I feel I have a niche for HR rather than Marketing.

Any career choice, be it marketing or HR should be dependent on your overall persoanlity facors. If you are good IPR, empathy, conflict resolution ability, understanding human behaviour, you should choose HR as you will make successful HR professional.

Simmilarly, If, you are good at meeting new people, good sales pitch, dynamic in nature, outgoing, you shouls choose marketing

hi friends, i feel it all depends on the personal look out for a particular. both fields are challenging enough.... a person who is more outgoing and loves exploring places and people opts for marketing cz its more dynamic... a person who is more people oriented and likes staying at one place is someone who'll get into HR... there is not much difference in the traits required for the two areas

I totally agree with the dilemma between HR and Marketing
It seems some time that in an organisation most important resource is human resource, however the most demanding function is Marketing because u hear a lot about HR outsourcing, but seldom about marketing outsourcing

thats my view, If u can accept challenges go for marketing, if u can live comparitively static go for HR

Its very difficult to set benchmarks for others!

Choosing a field depend upon your interet. Those who have more of interpersonal relationship, who can handle people can go for HR.and those who think they can cope up with the pressure of targets, are good in barganing and convincing can go dor marketing.Baically you should have a good insight of what you are and what you want.

Hii friends;

I have a very different point to this aspect whether HR OR MKT. First of all many of the guys opting for an MBA specialisation often have an imagination that Finance & Marketing are the best option thats availale to a majority. But the Problem is that 90% of the population Opting For SO CALLED MARKETING SPECIALISATION END UP DOING " SALES".

Let me frankly put across a view is Sales a part of Marketing OR Marketing is a part of SALES. If a student can frankly and confidently distinguish between these two major jargons of management that guy should opt for marketing.

Now as far as HR is concerened many students have an embibed perception that HR has no or minimal role to be played in the business. But Frankly if any student can understand the difference between people and productivity and can diffreniate the role of each then NO ONE CAN STOP THAT PERSON.

SUCESS OF AN ORGANISATION IS NOT ONLY ITS GROWTH; BUT WHEN ITS PEOPLE GROW ALONG WITH IT THATS THE ACTUAL GROWTH OR SUCESS OF AN ORGANISATION. And for this HR plays a great role.

So when it comes to Choosing between them of course individuals intrest does matter but one should not be in misconception that alone intrest matters.

well, i think marketing has a great potential n a top notch currently........sales promotion, events, marketing, retail can be a great start-up in FMCG cos. because its a huge market out there.....

with increasing tie-ups, bigger entrance of global players and improved channels of distribution , it is going to be a big recession-proof field in the days to come........
