Some Feedback from my side....

Overall a very depressing GD.... people just seem to be beating around the bush, with no one giving the exact points needed here. The basic comparison that should have been made would have been between hindi (and other indian languages) vs english and how people have made it fancy, a status symbol.

Comparison shold have been made that how english has conquered their mind sets and a person who doesnt know english is considered derogatory. It should have been put up, how people prefer to listen to english music, movies or customs just as a sort of status symbol, whereas they don't have any knowledge of the rich indian culture, its languages, etc. This change of mentality should have been the key point, but it was left untouched.

Its not bad to speak english, bcoz after all when u have to do business with english speaking countries, u need to know english but ppl make it fancy, and take it for granted that who speak hindi are semi literate or gawar.

Not many ppl respect the gr8 poets of hindi literature. On the other hand everyone knows and respects shakespeare There are many examples of ppl who have glorified hindi. eg. shri vajpayee spoke in hindi in N conference

Hence we shud remember that hindi is our language and just like chinese are proud of their language , even though it is very hard for the world, yet they shine it with pride and , so shud we.

As the saying goes, dikhawe pe mat jao, apni akal lagao...

People started with many glitches.....

eg....
ankit avasthi: hello frenz i wud like to initiate this gd by saying that the reason why india is recieiving end less amt of FDI is becoze of our cheap english speaking man power
ankit avasthi: we ppl are tought english from the very first standard and it proves beneficial for all of us

ankit avasthi: the trend was seen with BPO companies rushing towards india
ankit avasthi: coz of cheap english speaking man power

My friend, u started the GD and remember u will have the max modertors' attention. If u go wrong, u will lose max marks as well
. Who said that FDI depends on how well or unwell our english is?? Who said our english is cheap.... Sorry the word, if at all is "poor" and not cheap.

Yo have made a big blunder with starting with a wrong point.

Again, BPO companies dint run to India bcoz of cheap english, but bcoz of lower cost of man power.

i can to telll u that as today english is one of the basic lanaguage speakk in most of the countries

Everyone must remember that proper grammar and sentence correction is needed.
vishwa nathan: with the event of LPG in india, english will help a lot in the improvement of our country......... LPG??

u kept on talking abot LPG.... but dint explain anywhere what it is??

Everyone must remember the 3 Cs of GD.... ur pts must be COMPLETE, CORRECT AND CONCISE !!

again

ankit avasthi: if we want to shed English as a language then we shud also shed indian railways and many other monuments britishers gave us

people kept on giving meaningless points without touching what is the essence.
Friend, the question is not what english gave, but what we kept after their going. Britishers never gave us any monuments. No one says, english is bad or anything. But making it a fancy habit and abhoring our national languages is what is wrong!!

Another thing i noticed was the people kept on involving themselves in personal talks. Please remember it is not a picnic. You're supposed to be serious.

sneha_snehas20: Because of the opposition of the Dravidian south against Hindi..indians decided to follow english..and hindi as additional lang..

whenever u give points, make sure u have thought them well and express them correctly. Hindi is not considered as additional language but nationa language.

sneha_snehas20: ok.. we follow english because we first heard english during the brish rule and we started to follow this from then.. also..we english provides a linguistic tool for the administrative cohesiveness of a country adn also..its serves as a language of wider communication.. means communication made easy.. where as its not possible wid languages lik"spanish and all....

vishwa nathan: as i said earlier, china is a communist country and india is a democratic country

people were either talking of democracy, communism, spanish, french, FDI, and progress and growth. No one talked the core issue of our origin or what we speak. People should have discussed that changes in culture due to this fashioned change of our thoughts and culture.

The topic talks abot how these cultures like chinese, spanish or french are making progress while conserving their original traditions, whilst we are becoming more and more anglicised day by day and our culture and traditions are being reduced to mud.

there is no harm in speaking english or liking english traditions but in forgetting ours....

anyway, mr abhishek will give u more feedback on this.

Re: GD condcuted from 22/3/06 Onwards

Well the discussion was fairly okie. However, it severely lacked good participation. Save 1 or 2 people, others weren't able to put forward any valuable points. Ankur, and tarun gave some good points.

What u guys should have discussed was how Indian economic growth increases with capitalism. If u would have seen the recent Devil's Advocate with Narayana Murthy, i am sure u would have been able to gather more points.

Capitalism, indeed helps to generate competitiveness. It increases competition and hence a better utilization of resources is possible. Most of the govt. oriented firms are under loss. The govt. should take care of only administration, and not business. It should be left to the pvt. firms.

The real answer to India's problems is neo capitalism. As can be seen, pure capitalism also doesnt work.

So the answer is capitalism at work and socialism at heart. Capitalism provides better opportunities to people, generates more job and with a good competition, people feel like working. Capitalist firms should also ensure that they are able to spread the incentives properly and should undertake socialist activities.

I advice all of u to read more.... as no statistics were given.... nor any examples. Good examples of Tatas and Infosys could have been quoted. The way tatas have undertaken the reforms in the rural areas of bihar or the way Infosys Foundation (headed by sudha murthy) has benefitted people, is really commendable.

The govt. on the other hand should concentrate on making good laws and a proper infrastructure in which these capitalist firms can thrive better and provide a more healthy environment.

I also noticed that many participants didn't speak anything. See, if u don't know much of the topic, try to put forward some points by the help of what others speak. Staying totally dumb doesn't fetch any marks.

Detailed feedback will be given later.
