SEZs - Boon or Bane

GD conducted on 15th Jan.

My opinion:

Well the GD went fine and couple of points were discussed. However, i was seen at large, the people din't have complete knowledge of the subject.

I advice u to study more and read more business/political articles.

Some point that could be giving for boon coula have been:
economic growth, job opportunities, fdi, economies of scale, cheaper goods, higher rate of return, prospering of companies, etc.

For bane competing with small companies, bad for ssi's, minimisation of taxes, commercialisation of villages, environmental hazards, no social life for workers, etc.

Read more on the subject and try to extract these points from the matter.

Feedback for Valentine's Day vs Shiv Sena:

The GD was not very good from what it looks. Few points that i observed:

a) People kept on repeating the same points over and over again.

It will not fetch u marks.

b) Most of the discussion was off-topic

It was ok to start with discussing what is valentine's day but then talking the same thing over and over again doesnt help. People kept on relating to economic growth and all, which is not needed.

Strong focus should have been given to the activities of Shiv Sena and what these political parties are doing.

More importantly, it was necessary to discuss what should be done to prevent this menace, which none of u did.

In this context, u can say that exposure through media and open protest are some measures.

In a GD what is important is we discuss the solutions as well to a given problem.

I also found some people giving a not very good starting to it. You have to remember that starting of any GD is very important as most of the moderator's attention is to u. That is where u can get max attention and score max points is u put some solid points right away. Also u have to be very clear as to whether u r supporting the topic or opposing it.

Gaurav200x: well the discussion was very average

Gaurav200x: when u talk of cyber world and is relevance in real world.... lets see what all u shud have also talked abt.... someone talked of e-commerce..... fine.... but u got to ELABORATE it
Gaurav200x: how?? net banking, online investments, advertising
Gaurav200x: now, u could sit on ur terminals and do online shopping....
Gaurav200x: eg ebay is a good example
Gaurav200x: but all of u missed this point
Gaurav200x: look at the technology... webcams, voip enabled skype and voice chatting makes u feel u are right next to the person and in short cyber world has brought people very close and hence has a gr8 significance in the real world
Gaurav200x: with the help of internet u have access to a vast knowledge that every the largest libraries in the world may not have
Gaurav200x: and offcourse, every tech has -ve effects too..... like terrorism and pornography

u can give the example of how people misuse technology to defame others, there are bank frauds etc

At the same time cyber technology helps u to reach millions, eg u can air ur views to people through and articles which is similar to newspaper.

Basically the discussion should have been more oriented to what happens in the cyber world and how much is it relevant to the happenings of the real world. Quoting any incorrect statements in the discussion would only cause loss of marks, like someone pointed out that pornography helps people learn about sex…. REALLY?? I dun think u need porn to learn sex… there are many other books and manuals for that.

I would advise all of u to follow this practice.

Think of 4-5 topics everyday and write all the points u can think in the favour and against the topic. This practice would help u to think fast and think more. Within a month u would be able to perform a lot better. And as usual, read more.
