White Gunman opens fire and killed nine people at Charleston church in South Carolina

A gunman opened fire and killed several people at a historic black church in downtown Charleston, South Carolina late Wednesday, police and media reports said. The shooting happened at about 9:00 pm (0100 GMT) at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church. According to its website, it is the one of the nation’s oldest black church in the US south.
Charleston Police Chief Greg Mullen told a press conference early Thursday that the gunman, described as a clean-shaven man in his early 20s, was still at large and "extremely dangerous." "This is a tragedy that no community should have to experience," Mullen said. "It is senseless and unfathomable in today's society that someone would walk into a church during a prayer meeting and take their lives."
"The only reason that someone could walk into a church and shoot people praying is out of hate," said Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley. "It is the most dastardly act that one could possibly imagine, and we will bring that person to justice ... This is one hateful person."
South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley called the shooting a “senseless tragedy” in a statement released after midnight, saying her family was praying for the victims.
“While we do not yet know all of the details, we do know that we’ll never understand what motivates anyone to enter one of our places of worship and take the life of another,” Haley said. “Please join us in lifting up the victims and their families with our love and prayers.”
Well, this has shattered the soul of people and such attack is just senseless. Charleston is also known as “The Holy City”.
