Before the Australia-India series, Saurav Ganguly had said in the press conference that he will quit the cricket after this series. He was hurt at being dropped from the Irani Trophy squad. But many cricket legends and experts thinks his departure is perfectly timed, like the game itself.

But after showing good performances in last 4 innings (last 2 tests against australia), wht do you think, is it right decision taken by Saurav Ganguly??? Dada has more cricket left in him???

Hi friends,
Well there r only 5 reasons based on which a cricketer announces his retirement......1)Going thru his worst phase in terms of performance.....
2)Body/Health not supporting him..........3)Too much of cricket for him.....4)Voluntary retirement giving opportunity to newcomers better thn him.....& finally.....5)Politics
There were various combinations amongst these involved in Ganguly's decision to retire.....u guys decide now!

Cheers.........:SugarwareZ-061:

yes his decision came right at time
at this stage india needs a team that can play till the next world cup and
if the seniors who are abt to retire at the time when world cup will be on the doorstep it would be very difficult for the indian team to cope with the other teams who will have much experienced players out there.
second reason might be his age and health that wont allow him to play much more

I wud say this is the right time for Ganguly to retire. One reason is much is expected out of "Fab four" which cannot be achieved all the time and moreover they are getting older.I wud say the dependancy on Ganguly has come down cos there are some younger players who are ready to shoulder the responsibilities. So this is the best time we groom those youngsters and get the game gng. This is very important by looking at the present Aussie team where the absence of Warne,Glenn and Gillespie is felt in the bowling attack. So we need to get some exposure for the youngsters before we expect them to perform in a great level.Sachin entered the field at the age of 16 and was still performing. We need to have more Sachins and should not stop with one.So this is the best time for "Fab Four" to retire.

yes i also agree that it is the right time for ganguly to retire,as we know the kind politics which goes in the indian cricket team selection, and mostly ganguly faces the problem ,and everytime he proves his critics that he can accept any challenge. This is the right kind of series , for him to retire.

Yes this is the right time for Dada to take retirement...his game does not have aggression since last 3 - 4 years..also in india there r huge no. of young players which r performaing better than him...so India needs some transformational chage in their team.

This decision of his should have come way back...i don't know why Indian players don't have the will or self-respect to quit the game gracefully when they have achieved enough in their career?? Why do they have to wait till 'recession' turns into their play and they are 'forced' (atleast thats what they have to say!!) to retire. Lara, McGrath etc. have done that. Sachin said the other day on TV that the senior players don't get enough respect. I guess for that the players have to put the game before their materialistic interests. The lovers of the game in India go to watch cricket not just to see their favourite players perform but also to see India win (although they want it all the time).

I believe its time for the young guns to take over and the selectors to adopt new policies to identify them (player rotation may work).

-Thanks
Abhishek

I think Dada should have taken retirement when way back. He had lost his batting skills when he was in middle journey of his captaincy.

this is probably the best time for him to have retired as there has been pressure on him from the likes of rohit sharma, bvsides he got a graceful exit unlike many modern day cricketers like mark waugh, lance klusener etc

Its obviously a right decision and this is the right time because ganguly had many rivalries against Australian team in the past and he also needed to prove his credentials to selection committee. Though top scorer in test cricket for india in d year 2007, selection committe excluded him from d squad @ d cost of Yuvraj. And after already declaring at d start of d series to retire from international cricket, Ganguly freely played his shots throughout d series and enjoyed his cricket in last series.

But unfortunately Ganguly out for DUCK in last innings of his career like Don Bradman........So sad.......... Century on Debut & Duck on Exit....

But overall, his career was extra-ordinary........ Around 18,000 total runs in tests and ODIs........ truly gr8 player and more than that.........a truly gr8 aggressive captain !!! I wud say, He was the :second: best captain for india after kapil dev.

We will miss DADA............ Salute to DADA !!!

I dont feel its the right time for the prince to retire, after all he is the most successful captain that India has ever had after Azhar, given the time that both have spent as captains - keeping aside Dhoni. But it is just a matter of respect for the person who almost won us the world cup, drew the series against Australia on their soil and has the record for scoring the 2nd most no. of ODI centuries after Sachin.

I believe its time for the young guns to take over and the selectors to adopt new policies to identify them (player rotation may work).

he still had some cricket left in him. he could have waited for another 3 years.its sad that a person of ganguly's caliber had bow down to selector pressure. well i wish of luck to him for his future it will be difficult to find a talent of ganguly's equivalent. he had such a fabulous cricketing years. he is role model for others to emulate. i hope or rather im confident that hw will come strongly in ipl season this year. he was always the resilent and
