GD is a process in which a group of people put their views on a common topic in front of other members of their groups. GDs can be prove beneficial for those who have strong communication skills, good fluency over language or have great soft skills..But what about those people who are technically strong n sound but don't have fluent English or don't have good communication skills. So what do u people say Should GD be Part of Campus Placements????

Group Discussion has been a part of the Selection process for admission into most of the top Business Schools .

The skills that are usually assessed in a Group Discussion are:

Communication Skills
Interpersonal Skills
Leadership Skills
Motivational Skills
Team Building Skills
Tolerance to Ambiguity
Divergent Thinking
Listening skills
Presentation Skills
Analytical / Logical skills

Are still companies conducting GD? In 2008-2009, when I was in UG I faced 5 campus interview. But none of the company kept us GD.

I think knowledge is essential.

GD is not necessary because in PI round the interviewer can judge the analytical skill and communication skill of the candidate..whereas in GD the technical knowledge can hardly be measured...so it has the chances of elemination of stronger candidate

Absolutely! GD should be a compulsion. Its the first step to test the students. In the corporate world, a student would be faced with difficult situations where he would be addressing his peers, seniors and juniors and he should be able to answer questions.

As i think, definitely it should be, cause its a best way to judge the overall skills of students. And if anyone is entering in corporate world so definitely it should have skills like communication, motivation, leadership etc.

the another thing which assess in GD is that how an individual well performed in a group and lead the whole group, which i think can't possible in PI.

Yes I feel so.
It helps in realistic screening of the candidate.
there are students who are good in academics but lacks public speaking abilities.

yes... becoz it will help us to conduct meetings and work in a group in a working environment
thanks and regards

Yes of course a GD should be an important part of selection as it shows a person's presentation ability, knowledge and speaking skills in front of the public. Also his knowledge about current affairs is tested here.

I believe that only technical skills are not important for any person.
For any team/ project to be a success it is important that all the members in the team communicate effectively.

I think GD is an important part of the selection process. The person who is charged with the selection process has very limited time to select the best candidate he can from a number of applicants. GD is a tool that helps them identify candidates who are more skilled than others. During a GD you don't just show how much knowledge you have outside the books, but also how well you think on your feet and how you put forth your views. This way you even see how different people perform in a group and who holds his/her own. At least that's my opinion.

now a days gd have become a place to shout and seek attention i think P.I provides a better solution for choosing a candidate

GD as are no way to show a group dynamics, instead writing an essay or may be a group interview is a better way to judge
