Are social networking sites like Orkut dangerous

Every time when a teenager has been murdered or abducted, social networking sites comes out to be the main villian. So what should be done.

Should we:
1) stop social networking or
2) parents should play a big role in guiding the teens or
3) we should stop meetin friends through social networking sites

So friends I ask u what u feel and what should be done.....Pls post your views....
 
rohan i thnk its becoz orkut is a gr8 plc to socialize...n it cant be monitored...n teens hv nt mature outlook..so thy r bein convinced by strngers easily...nw as far as options r cocerned..
1..stoppng social netw is extreme step...y hinder other persons..?
2) parents cant alwyz guide thr children..n monitor thm alwyz
3) stopping meetng frens thru orkut is gret opportunity loss in terms of makng gud frens..

so considering all above..i think balanced outlook wud be fr orkut admin to monitor at least sm activities...n teens shud be made aware of the consequences of meetng strngers...

Any ways social networking sites are responsible somewhere in all such antisocial stuffs all. Best eay to avoid such stuffs is that parents can pay more attention to what their children at the same time one should are be careful about these things are doing other wise closing social networking sites is not a good idea because today in this busy life social networking sites are good means to interact with friends.

Social sites give us an opportuniy to make new friends, to make new contact. Todays when life become so busy it gives us a chance to refresh ourselves by indulged in socaillization. Moreover it is in our hand how we use it. Todays teenager are mature enough to decide what is right, what is wrong.So there is no harm in these sites as long as we take it constructive ways.
 
According to me Rohan, I think Social networking websites have not only becaome a base to keep in touch with your old friends as well an ability to make new friends via online.
Now it is upto everubody of us..unless and untill we know the opposite person fully, we should not share any personal details with him or her...again parents can play a vital role in it. More importantly keeping a limit in every little thigs is really necessary!!!!
 
Social networking sites ... like orkut and others ... needs more stringent monitoring from the administer ... which often takes a back seat once the site gets popular ... !!! It is only den ... daat people with ulteriar motives ... try to wrongly use the values of thz social networking sites !!

In ORKUT its even more pronounce ... as the site gives an opportunity to ppl who are even not added on the list to visit not only the profile of a person but also go through their scrapbook !! this process gives dem an opportunity to analyse the person in terms of response they get !!

More over ... hoax profiles are also another manner in which ppl misuse the sites !!! BANNING such sites are not a way out ... as it will be a measure which will restrict even ppl who are not wrng ... instead ... identification codes should be made mandatory for all loggers ... which will enable one to identify the oder person !!
 
i think ..ther no fault on the side of social networking sites . its all the round scenario that goes on and on ... does these all things happen only due to social netwrking sites... according to me the main cause of all this is the in poper role played by media. they go fro critising all this thing... if we se from the global aspect , these social network sites are of gr4ater use , every persona can express his views and also can take views of others .... that too from the communites around the world.. in exact terms , these sites are trully global in nature.... tey exist round the globe .. we say telecom has make a word at a distance of seconds ..where as these social network sites has brought world in a distance of nano seconds..........

Social networking sites in themselves are not dangerous infact they can help the individual in many ways it is generally seen that the danger starts when we trust too much and do not follow reasonable precautions while using such sites and place our faith in strangers who we have met online.
 
dear what i think is in the todays network economy, where network of externalities is in booming face, if these websites would be closed then it would be a great loss, these websites are totally not responsible for the murder and these all... dont u all think because it is popular everytime it is being blamed as criticism comes along with success, so according to me, its the job of user to understand what would be beneficial and how to be protected in todays era with these all mischiefs....
anyways if any one dont agree with mine views then do make me change mine view.....

Any new technology that comes has pros and cons. For that matter, anything and everything has a negative side. You eat food to live, yet the same food can cause cholesterol and heart attack.

Hence, what is needed is a BALANCE and follow certain tips.

People have misused social networking groups like Orkut, yet, one can't deny the fact that it is the most happening thing in the town and because of orkut, many people like me, actually could get close to their high school friends and relatives.

However, one needs to be careful while using such sites. Everything is open out there and anyone can read any info you put on the site. Hence, by extremely careful in giving out personal details and your original picture.

Apart from this, ensure to have a strong password to avoid getting your a/c hacked.

For anything.... awareness and knowledge is a bliss and ignorance is hell.

i think sites like orkut where one has to display his own information are not good for the society especially for the teenagers who are just not aware of threats of these sites . such teenagers must be made aware of the
right use of all such sites . Otherwise it will definately cause danger .

Some children display their personal information on the site which any one can check -this is very dangerous (take an example of Adnan)
see, there is no harm in using such sites but one must be aware of its proper use.

One more thing i would like to add here is that the role of parents in guiding their children while using inter net is very important for avoiding danger of such sites.

Afterall any site , internet , any machine , etc is a form of science if you will use properly then its a boon otherwise its a bane. so it depends upon a person.

The new world rests on the networking concepts greatly . One can not deny the utilitarian view such sites yield . When used properly even the most negative aspect of energy can be transformed to yield productive results.

Talking of such sites especially .. its on ones own discretion to engage or not in such activities. Even out side the cyber arena we happen to encounter many people , however their impact is wholely in ones own hands. Parents however do need to guard their teens against the potential threats that these websites could carry with them . Yet again , accepting or refusing a friend as is an assignment requiring great homework ... lOne can not bar such sites cos they r the need of the hour . Just like the cellphones they have very much become the part and parcel of all our lives.

Its not the problem of networking sites.They are a means of staying in touch with your friends.Its the over usuage of social networking sites.Its nt the prblm of orkut,its the prblm of orkut fever.
