Who will win the HUTCH bid?Already there are four contenders for the bid
Vodafone
Reliance
Essar
Orascom

So finally who is going to get the cake?

-Deepak.

As much as i would love reliance to win the bid, practically speaking, Vodafone is way bigger than REL.

If RELIANCE wins it, then free or low cost rel to hutch n vice versa ... MTNL and other players are going to get screwed royally.

So basically, no player would want rel to win this one.

Seems to me Vodafone will eat the cake ;)

It will be better if Reliance would have this cake of Hutch biddings, but from factual point, Vodafone will have the cake, this i got to know by viewing others' views above.
but, i've voted for Reliance, already.

Vodafone is definitely a very strong competitor.... but i wonder whether an international company would be able to take care of dosmestic customers' needs....

Read this....

Vodafone, which has a 10 per cent stake in Bharti, could gain from this deal. That could help Vodafone which recorded losses of euro 14.8 billion last year. That loss, however, is a fall-out of the $183 billion all-share deal to acquire Germany’s Mannesmman in 2000. Hopefully, this deal should improve the books for Vodafone.

Vodafone will need Essar to be present in the venture. That is because under the government norms, foreign equity is capped at 74 per cent. So, either the Ruias can hold their entire stake or they can dilute 6 per cent to meet government norms.

a user at Business World's site, posted a comment.... too.

If Vodafone is bidding for Hutch, I smell a rat. The deal is peaking $18bn. Now, I wouldn’t have had a problem with this except that Vodafone has been under a lot of fire off-late. There has been an abysmal divide between Vodafone’s rate of expansion and profitability. Mr. Sarin¸ the CEO¸ has projected unrealistic profit graphs to woo the investors. How does he expect to earn such a high return on investment when Vodafone is faltering in every other market? The truth is that "Bigger" doesn’t mean "Better". There is no punchline left for Mr. Sarin because Vodafone's entry certainly seems like the big corporate joke. Goliath wasn’t known for his sense of humour! Leave India to homegrown Indian companies to manage it better.

So its a matter of time, who wins the monopoly.

But i wonder why did RCL back out.... which was a total surprise. They would have easily managed to become the no. 1 mobile operator in India surpassing Airtel's 30 M subscriber mark.

Anyone has any clue???

U know Gaurav whatever news is coming in the media right now is pure rumours. So u cant believe whthr RCL is out of the race or not. Last nite itself Anil Ambani came with a statement saying banks are ready to finance him. So we can't count him out as yet.

Regd who gets Hutch, I cant say anything till an actual official offer is made. Tilll then I wud wait

Vodafone has appraised hutch to be of 17 million $ .

Not just that, they are willing to send 2 - 3 million just to promote their services in INDIA.

Spend 3 millions and you can easily have Indians working for them and there is no dearth of effective CEO's or top level executives in India .
