In today's India we always see the voting turnouts after elections and its sad to say in a country of 1 billion the voting turnout is 50-60% and rest 40 percent don't vote and there is a very big population of youth who do not vote in most of the developed countries voting turnout remain at 80-90%. I would like to know you views that whether Indian Constitution should be amended and voting should be made compulsory for every citizen ? or let it remain as it is going ?

I am strongly in support of amending constitution as people are not serious about voting and they consider voting day as a holiday for their enjoyment. Voting is a right of every citizen and every citizen should contribute in selection of Members of Parliament and Members of legislative assembly.
Advertisements like Jaago Re by TATA TEA has tried to increase awareness among people for the voting and its importance but i think that was not sufficient and there should be something more to be done in this direction.

I agree that voting should be made compulsory for all. It is our fundamental right and we should use this right for the betterment of our country. Currently majority people voting are from lower income gropus who are not literate and get influenced by money power shown by politicians. We as educated citizens of India should use our knowledge and education for voting for better people to rule our country

Yes, it should be made mandatory. People take Voting day as holiday for their enjoyment. Election Commission along with related government authorities to implement such steps to persuade citizens for the voting.

Along with this, Section 49-O i.e. "I vote Nobody" should be simplified. This will help to eliminate the candidates who are criminals and have their cases pending in the court of law.

I feel very much proud that my decision(vote) is going to determine along with others, the leader of the nation. But what is happening with others? If this is the case voting should be mandatory and EC should make arrangement such that each and every individual votes on the most important day.

Voting should ofcourse be made compulsory. But "how" is the question. There should be a Non voting Tax. Caste Reservations for non voters should be scrapped. People should be given voting bonus pays for voting. People should also have the right to reject a candidate and the candidate who gets maximum number of rejections should be barred from contesting elections for the life time.

voting need not be made compulsory.. rather people esp illiterate ones should be made aware of the importance of voting...dey should bcum aware of wat dey r loosin at an individual level by not voting n how they r responsible 4 digging their own grave....only then our country vl b in d hands of right leaders n lead towards prosperity....

yes it should be made compulsory , bt with the option of negative voting open to the people.it must also be accompnied with the education of the masses so that they realise the power of their right. also be an eye opener to those people who sell their votes coming under undue influence for packets of food or alchool and a few hopes.

With the advent of Unique Identification Authority of India – UIDAI. We will be able to track who has voted and who has not. This would remove most of the loopholes of the system. And this should provoke people to vote. Voting must be made compulsory.

voting is a right, and thus by definition one can/cannot exercise the right as one wishes....
but what will we get if voting is made mandatory?? would people be more responsible towards the right? or will they, considering this as a burden, just mark the first candidate on the list??
that is according to me the point that should be considered, is the public of India responsible enough for the action to turn out right??
