Case study of Leela Hotel

After the 9/11 Twin towers blasts in America, the adverse effects of it were also seen in India, when every thing came to a standstill. At that time Leela hotel decided to eliminate its 280 employees from its staff members because there was low salary available. Hence they dismissed 280 workers from the staff which included 200 workers and 80 supervisors.

Then MSKS came to the rescue of the workers. A meeting was held between the management and the secretary of MSKS. The reason behind the elimination was asked and the reason given by the management was that they were unable to pay heavy remunerations to this amount of employees.

Then some calculations were done and it was found that even if 10% of the remuneration of the workers was cut then it would be able to provide remuneration to the 200 workers . The management agreed and 200 workers were absorbed back into the organization.

Now was the question of remaining 80 supervisors. Then again some calculations were done and it was found that if further 2.5% reduction from the existing salary could be done along with the reduction of 10%, then even the remaining 80 could be employed.

But then MSKS made negotiations and said that the reduction should be done right from the upper level managers to the lower level employees. The proposal was accepted and the supervisors were taken back.

This reduction continued for 3 months and after that everything was fine. Hence, it was success on the part of Maharashtra Samartha Kamgar Sanghatana.
