Organisation are characteristic of all complex societies. They are a means of bringing together human beings and physical resources in a co-ordinated and controlled way to achieve a particular objective. Organisations can be viewed as an open system that takes input from the environment and output from other systems and through a series of activities, converts these inputs into outputs to achieve its objectives . Thus organisations are not in complete control of their own fate and are affected by the environment in which they operate. It functions as an art of a broader external environment of which it belongs to. The environment affects the organisation through the different elements affecting it. There are various elements that affect the environment and these elements are constantly changing. Thus it can be said that the environment is always in a flux. Organisations would have to be constantly conscious of the environment surrounding it and would have to gradually adapt and evolve to suit the environment if it intends to be a going concern organisation. The effects of the operation of the organisation within the environment are reflected in terms of the management of opportunities and risks and the successful achievements of its aims and objectives. The increasing rate of change in the external environment has caused the development of many organisational theories which aims at understanding the different ways the elements within the environment affects and influences an organisation and its operations.
