SMS culture-good or bad?

i feel today most of us are so accustomed to using the 'SMS Language' that I know of a friend who had used 'u' instead of you, 'v' instead of we, 'r' instead of are in one of the slides during an important presentation, which resulted in him getting lesser marks.

it totally depends on individual... how do u use the facility... remember one thing excess of anything is bad... rest upto u.....

definitely its good,,,we are in 21st century and technology and upgradation is the need of time,,,SMSes are one of the easiest ways to communicate,,,so my thumbs up for sms culture

SMS language is ok. One has to know the circumstances under which they are involved in writing something. If they are in an exam, they should remember to use the appropriate words in full. If they are sending a text message, they can cut short the words or use some short hand that gives the same sound wothout losing the meaning, as long as message is communicated.

Obviously any new technology comes with its set of pros and cons....The use/lack of it depends on the convenience it offers....the very fact that SMS/chat culture is 'this' popular reflects the benefits it offers...the flip side though is what is evident from the very posts above in terms of the language and the abbreviations used..
(obv dis is an easier way 2 type, nt neccessarly d bettr 1....V need 2 jus set d rules straight wen it comes 2 educatin d kids n der writtn eng skills:)

SMS itself is a short form of SHORT MESSAGE SERVICE.
we cant say tht sms culture is good or bad.
as it depends on the person who uses the system.
the service is meant to convey a short message within quick span of time.
in today's busy world, it is necessary we adapt to short forms for quick conversations and transactions.
but at the same time, we cant forget what we were taught in the LKGs and schools.
adapt to the change. ..at the same time, dont forget the learnings.
we need to adapt to the SMS culture but at the same time we shud nt forget the language culture.
this is wht i wanted to say.
according to me, sms culture is not bad.

sms culture is somehow good :/ but mostly depends on the msg type ..if good msgs are being delivered then its good, otherwise if humors are being delivered then it may result bad :/

I think SMS is best way to say anything , when its not possible to call or talk face to face. Also, due to free sms pack by almost all companies its cheap nd fast way to get in touch and express your feeling.

I think theres no replacement to pure unadulterated english language and although every language might evolve with time there should be a limit on this kind of evoultion...

SMS culture is now very popular among youngster. As it saves money, time & effort to speak. It is also helpful in case of providing information like address etc. So it is useful.

Hey Deepak, even you have used the short forms of various words like imp, secs and lang. So dude i dont think that SMS is the way to learn the language. It's just a way to express yourself.

yaa its the way to expression ...............world is going fast & so the communication methodologies .................sms is thus better way to pass messages & enables time management.

None of the modern inventions of science is without its own share of flaws , but when the positives of a particular invention is on the higher side we consider that thing as good . The sms culture is one such thing which has got a good share of +ves. It helps us to keep in touch in this fast paced world where writing long letters is a passe.
