Well, coz of the recent incidents during the Sydney Test, umpires have been in the limelight more than ever before. The decisions given by them were much the talk of the town and that is why I start this debate...whether umpires should be replaced with technology??

So guys please pour in your views.

Well frnd, I must thank you for starting this nice topic.Technology can't entirely replace umpires in the cricket field and we don't want that to happen.A neutral person should always be on the grnd and this happens almost all games.Umpires can take the help of Technology on need base.Umpires come handy in some points:

1.Bowlers have to say the guard to the umpires
2.Fielders running the protected area must the warned immediately.
3.Signalling byes,Leg byes or wides can be easily done by umpires.
4.Changing the ball

Ofcourse all these can be done with the Tech but think about the scenario where all the players have to stare at a board for the above decisions.Time spent staring on the board will be more than time spent on playing. On these occasion umpires absolutely save time.

I agree that mistakes happened on a large scale during the recent Test match. But there are oppurtunities where the umpires could have consulted the Technology.Umpires dint follow the rules.Taking a decision based on happenings in one series won't be fair enough.Punishing the entire community for the mistake of few people won't be fair.Even the ICC has included some provision where the batsman can claim against the umpires decision on the field.Hope that will pour some water on the burning Test controversy.

:SugarwareZ-064: well i think umpires should not b replaced. Since ages we have seen the game wid batsmen, bowlers, fielders & umpires...dey have become an integral part of d game now...n entirely replacing dem would b being too harsh on dem...after all "to err is human"...we all make mistakes...dont we?
The issue is that umpires when arent confident about a decision should use "third umpire" so as to avoid such mistakes n controversies, there shouldnt be any biasness on thier part for any country coz dat will hamper the spirit of the game...
technology can never replace the human touch & its ability to judge...but if its combined wid technology...i guess it will work out better.
Moreover ICC n other cricket boards should b strict on the umpires n thre should be stricter punishments imposed on them if they dont follow the rules.Bucknor has been banned n all but wat about Mark Bensen?????no mention about him taking a decision based on wat ponting said? Thats wrong...rules should b fair n equal fr all....
N hey if thre wont be any umpires will we not miss thier actions...which i truly adore...esp of Billy Bowden...n others...there own way of displying a "six" or "free hit" or wen someone gets "out"

if you perform some activity or Job, mistakes will occur.

If you will sit Idle you will not do any mistake,

i.e. the person who is performing might make some mistakes, there are some chances because it is not a mechanised / automated process, each time the situation is different the enviornment is different.

Therefore your decisions are based on your Perception - which comes from Enviornment, attitude etc..

We can'nt replace man with machine in case like cricket -

the exitement will surely go down

there must be APPEALS (which increases your exitement & heart beats)
SIGNS FOR SIXES & FOURS

all this give cricket an complete game of exitement.

These are my views & give your opinion too

Well I feel that technology should be used to improve on the decisions taken by the on field umpires. Initailly the adage was "Catches win matches" but now it seems like "Umpires win matches"....here i m not saying with reference to sydney test but on the overall since the introduction of technology into the game.
Technology has come into play in physical training, analysis of past performance, and in various other departments of the game. So why are the umpires being left out?:SugarwareZ-064:

So I feel umpires should definitely be a part of the game but technology should also be used when there are doubts in the minds of the umpires about the decision. Technology like snicko meter, hawk eye etc. can be uesd to improve on the decision.

i think there is a rule for third umpire which is totally depended on the technology used.... he gives the decision after going on for the technological help.. but the question which can be arise out is that when it should be asked to give the decision...??
as seen in many of the decision of the umpires that they are not giving the decision correctly but... then too cricketers can't do anything...
something should be there in this context...
what do you think friends??

The present system defibitely needs improvement but completely replacing umpires wid technology wud make cricket lose itz charm .... Imagine wat wud a game b wid out appealin , etc

The technology must be replaced by umpires. In the recent match at sydney, the condtion was not at all very well. Then to the umpires were taking wrong decisions. First i want to ask question that if umpires would start doing such things den y there is need to play?......
