Raw Materials:-
Leather – is the main component used for the shoe manufacturing
The different kinds of leather are:-
Buffalo Leather – is the most widely available leather in India and is most of the time used in the manufacturing of the shoe.
Cow Leather – is the second most abundantly available leather in India
Goat Leather – is very rarely used in the manufacturing of the shoe. It only comes in use when a specific buyer orders for it.
Sheep Leather – is not in demand as the leather is not abundantly available in India
Chicken Skin – is one of the very rarely used leather in the manufacturing of the shoe
Horse Hair – is generally used as a part and parcel of fashion, as it gives a roughish look to the shoe. This kind of shoe is generally in demand in the European Countries as the Europeans are very fashionable and cost – conscious.
Hide Leather – is generally used in the making of sole. Hide leather provides stiffness and as well as solidness to the shoe.
Reptile Leather – is very rarely used in the manufacturing of the shoe. It only comes in use when a specific buyer orders for it.
Split Leather – it gives a very comfortable and a good feel to the person wearing the footwear and also reduces the chances of shoe bite.
The leather used in the manufacturing of the shoe needs to be “PCP” and “Azodye” free otherwise the leather would give the customer skin rashes or harmful disease like cancer.
Other Raw Materials:-
Rexene – is used in the making of an insole.
TPR Material – is a material, which has properties, between leather and plastic and is used for sole making.
Rubber – is used in the making of sole.
PVC Sole – is also utilized in the making of soles.
Heel – is basically of two types i.e. plastic and wooden
Fittings and Decorative Items – e.g. buckles, rings, diamonds, elastic
Threads – is used for stitching the shoe
Adhesive – is used for sticking the upper portion of the shoe to the sole.
Color – used for giving specific colors.
Dye – used in the process of coloring.
Neolite – is a hard rubber, which is utilized for making the heels of the shoes.
Packing Material - boxes, cartons, tissue papers, tags, barcode labels
Finishing Material – polish, lacre, waxes
Nails – to keep the heel in position with the shoe
Foil paper: - it is used for name tags on the upper portion of the shoe
Before the raw materials are roped in for the manufacturing of the shoe, there are various tests conducted upon the materials like:-
