For many consumers it is becoming increasingly important to know about the company behind the products. People have growing ethical, social, and environmental concerns and they want to be reassured that the companies they are doing business with share their values and concerns.

Public relations (PR) is the practice of managing the flow of information between an organization and its public. Every organization likes to portray itself in a certain manner to the outside world.

PR can be used to build rapport with employees, customers, investors, or the general public. Almost every organization employs some level of public relations.

The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) explains PR as: "Public relations helps an organization and its publics adapt mutually to each other."
According to the PRSA, the essential functions of public relations include research, planning, communications dialogue and evaluation.

Public relations is not limited to certain media, and it is not focused on promoting products.
Public relations use any media, including TV and print advertising, to establish and maintain goodwill and mutual understanding between an organization and its publics.

PR is also image management so it is rightly said, what you see is what you believe and PRs goal is to align and project the right image to retain customers and build brand loyalty.
