Pictorial warning in Cigarattes. Will this really help?

Recently the Govt has passed orders for implementing a pictorial warning on all tobacco products to reduce its usuage.Let me first a simple question:" Aren't people aware of warning printed on all tobacco products and alcholic drinks.People read those messages and are drinking and smoking. So what is the point in making a pictorial reprensentation on all packets? They will see those pictures and they are going to smoke.Instead the Govt must ban or impose heavy duts cuts on all tobacco products and make it unreachable to middle class.Govt someway back implemented orders for banning cigarattes packets on 100 m radius from schools and colleges. But we can still get all those stuffs within the 100 m radius. So orders are still in papers. What is the point of passing those orders? The problem is not about awareness but about the punishement.Govt must impose ban on public smoking.Drink and drive must be made a non-bailable offense. We can still find wine shops near residential localities and educational institutions. Why is this happening?Without considering all these stuffs pictorial warning is never going to help.

Snippet from WHO :
India is caught in the midst of a catastrophic smoking epidemic, which is causing one in five of all male deaths in middle age and will cause about one million deaths a year during the 2010s. Seventy percent of these deaths (600,000 male and 100,000 female) will be between the ages of 30 and 69.

Pour your thoughts.

Pictorial warning is always going to help because i know that there are lots and lots of people who know tumour\carcinoma is something to which they can associate cigarette smoking with but don't know how hazardous it's actually!Pictorail warning will gave them an insight of it & really have an everlasting impact on their untrained minds! As far as banning is concerned we should not blaim Govt. for each & every social evil.In Srimad Bhagwat Geeta even after telling each & everything about Soul Sri Krsna in 18th chapter asked Arjuna to do whatever he likes! We must be positive in our thoughts rather than pointing out the bad sector!

no...i strongly believe dat dis wont help...its a effort which will bear no fruits...
people already are aware of all the harm dat cigarettes cause....if they had to stop...they would have...pictorial warning will do no good anyways...

NO. don't think that such pictures will be of any help. Smokers like me will just buy a metal case to store our cigarettes

will not work, animals are born to indulge in vices and forbidden pleasures. warnings have never stopped animals, man or otherwise from tasting the forbidden fruit.

WELL EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT VISUAL IMPACT IS MUCH MORE THAN ANY OTHER MEDIA.AND IT SHOULD BE REALLY CHECKED BECAUSE THE PEOPLE ARE MIDDLE AGE WHEN THEY ARE MOST PRODUCTIVE

I am a smoker and that don't affect me. whatever you write or put on packages it makes no difference for smoking people.

it will not help because a smoker is already aware that smoking is not good to him still he smokes. so any warning of this kind will not help

I dont think this'll help as the smokers wont stop smoking. One of my friends got such a packet from Europe to deter the chain smokers of our group from smoking. They were shocked to see the pictures but after an hour went out with the same packet to smoke :SugarwareZ-203:

It gives him an additional warning, so that he comes from 10 cigarettes per day to 3 or 4. Surely, it will have an impact.

i dont think that wud help. even there is a statutory warning on the cigarette pack but no one hardly bothers to read it. in fact, smokers after buying the pack of cigarette open the pack, take out a cigarette and then keep the pack in their pocket. they dont even see the price tag. now after the govt imposes the new rule, same thing is gonna happen. buy it, open it and keep it in pocket and fgt it.

i assume that for illiterates pictoral warnings can be of use, but still it totally depends on the smoker. no matter what you say or do a smoker can quit only when he really wishes to do so. i have real close friends who do not wish to quit no matter what , i persuaded him to make a project on the ill effects of cigarettes on human health and the environment just to get him to quit, but no use. the project was a great success but he is still a smoker.

My views are that pictorial warnings in cigarettes packets would hardly give any psychological warnings to addicts. As far as the intention behind this concept is concerned, i guess, it is to make awareness about its (ciagretters) ill-effect to the smokers. But, these addicts would have been already warned by many in their family and friends circles. So i dont think it would make any difference as far as consumption is concerned.

However, hesistation can be seen in first-time users.

I guess, if anyone in govt. is really concerned, then, the health ministry should ban these cigarettes companies, Or if they can't do that, then the best follow-up step after pictorial warnings would be to catch a somker and get him a tour to cancer hospital !

According to me,pictoral warnings wont help because 75% of the smokers in India already know that tobacco is harmful for health. But even though they smoke giving in to their addiction.I think there should be a more effective way of curbing the smoking of cigarettes like putting ban on them throughout the if if the government is really concerned about this issue.
