Pictorial warning in Cigarattes. Will this really help?

I agree to all the people who earlier said that a smoker always knows that smoking is harmful... and no amount of 'subtle' warnings will stop them from their daily in some cases hourly quota. Instead if we really want to see smoking as a past we need strict rules such as no smoking in public places and smoker rooms, which work very fine abroad.

I think the pictorial warning is a good start heading in the right direction to curb people from smoking. Seasoned smokers might not be deterred by the warning, but at least this method might scare off those just starting to smoke.

i don think this wud do any good for the common people like us.....drinking nd smoking are for individual pleasures so they wud carry on their work without any change...........moerover govt cud nt ban those items since they get a huge sum as taxes from these items......so al these are jus an eye wash.........

Recently the Govt has passed orders for implementing a pictorial warning on all tobacco products to reduce its usuage.Let me first a simple question:" Aren't people aware of warning printed on all tobacco products and alcholic drinks.People read those messages and are drinking and smoking. So what is the point in making a pictorial reprensentation on all packets? They will see those pictures and they are going to smoke.Instead the Govt must ban or impose heavy duts cuts on all tobacco products and make it unreachable to middle class.Govt someway back implemented orders for banning cigarattes packets on 100 m radius from schools and colleges. But we can still get all those stuffs within the 100 m radius. So orders are still in papers. What is the point of passing those orders? The problem is not about awareness but about the punishement.Govt must impose ban on public smoking.Drink and drive must be made a non-bailable offense. We can still find wine shops near residential localities and educational institutions. Why is this happening?Without considering all these stuffs pictorial warning is never going to help.

Snippet from WHO :
India is caught in the midst of a catastrophic smoking epidemic, which is causing one in five of all male deaths in middle age and will cause about one million deaths a year during the 2010s. Seventy percent of these deaths (600,000 male and 100,000 female) will be between the ages of 30 and 69.

Pour your thoughts.

Yes, the pictorial warnings should not only be limited to just pictures but the government should take the initiative to educate those who smoke about the ill - effects of smoking...

I don't think that an addiction like smoking can be eradicated by the pictorial warnings.smokers alaways knew the harmful effects of smoking ,so the i don't think that the pictorial warnings will enhance or debar them from smoking.

I dnt think Pictorial warnings will help people to quit smoking, its all abt mindset of people before pictorial warnings there was lot of information written on packets, but bloody(sorry) smokers are indiffrent abt dt.but i read one insteresting artical abt pictorial warning in reputed news paper it said dt one scientific survey ws conducted by the scientist in US n it said dt The pictorial warnings actually exicits peoples to do...
So i dnt tink it ll help stightway but we hav to make laws more tought, more punishment, impling more tax on tobacco product,..............

Pictorial Warnings might help a bit...but they are not going to make any significant change. They might cause some hesitation among beginners but smokers are indifferent to them. Education embedded with some real life examples right at the preliminary level might be of great help...

It is really difficult to understand the concept of Govt......All the smokers know about the warnings and all of them are not really interested in quiting the cigerattes. Govt. Should make it much and much more expensive so that only few can efford by applying heavy taxes and duties.
Than a common man will think of quiting it.

dear friends,
cigarette smoking really hazardous for health who smokes and who stand beside to him .it will not stop if you put big letter on the box.it needs strong mindset .first thing government is spreading poision and then tells stops take poision.how can two things be done simultaneously.this can only be done total ban on cigarette there isno other alternative way there.:SugarwareZ-083:

The pictorial depection has a irritation quotent which dissuades people rom looking at the cover of the packs . From real life observations of people reducing the number of packets they buy of scratching out the pictures from the packets i feel these pictures are very useful

nO.....I dont think this will help in creating awareness among people regarding the health hazards of smoking, this can be only done through proper counselling and medical attention and with stricter rules for stopping children from smoking, there should be free counselling centers for smokers who wish to free themselves from smoking :SugarwareZ-167:

I dont think so it will help. If the government really cares about the citizens, then the companies making cigarettes should be abolished.

Just putting pictorial warning wont help as the smokers are going to smoke as per their will..
