Converse is an American shoe company that has been making shoes since the early 20th century

n his late 30s, Marquis Mill Converse, who was previously a respected manager at a footwear manufacturing firm, opened the Converse Rubber Shoe Company (completely unrelated to the Boston Rubber Shoe Company founded by fourth cousin Elisha Converse) in Malden, Massachusetts in 1908. The company was a rubber shoe manufacturer, providing winterized rubber soled footwear for men, women, and children. By 1910, Converse was producing 4,000 shoes daily, but it was not until 1915 that the company began manufacturing athletic shoes for tennis. The company's main turning point came in 1917 when the Converse All-Star basketball shoe was introduced. Then in 1921, a basketball player named Charles H. "Chuck" Taylor walked into Converse complaining of sore feet. Converse gave him a job. He worked as a salesman and ambassador, promoting the shoes around the United States, and in 1923 his signature was added to the All Star patch. He tirelessly continued this work until shortly before his death in 1969. Converse also customized shoes for the New York Renaissance (the "Rens"), basketball's first all black pro basketball team.

When the United States entered World War II in 1941, Converse shifted production to manufacturing footwear, apparel, boots, parkas, rubber protective suits, and ponchos for pilots and troops. Widely popular during the 1950s and 1960s, Converse promoted a distinctly American image with its Converse Yearbook. Artist Charles Kerins created cover art that celebrated Converse's role in the lives of high school and college athletes, as the essential sports shoe. In the 1970's, Converse purchased the trademark rights to Jack Purcell sneakers from B.F. Goodrich

ReignCom is a very successful company, the favorable brand perception had increased sales of MP3 industry. So iPod gives the company access to a whole new series of segments that buy into other parts of the ReignCom brand. Brand is all-important as being one of the most established IT brands and has a very loyal set of enthusiastic customers that advocate the brand. Such a powerful loyalty means that ReignCom not only recruits new customers, it retains them as they come back for more products and services and the company also has the opportunity to extend new products to them, for example the iPod. The company has commented that a batch of its product has screens that break under impact, and the company is replacing all faulty items. This is in addition to problems with early iPods that had faulty batteries, whereby the company offered customers free battery cases The company is resolute, but if it gives in to the music producers, it may be perceived as a commercial weakness. Some industry specialists commented that the swap could confuse ReignCom consumers. ReignCom has the opportunity to develop its iTunes and music player technology into a mobile phone format. It has a color screen, stereo speakers and an advance camera system. A version of ReignCom 's iTunes music store has been developed for the phone so users can manage the tracks they store on it. Downloads are available via a USB cable, ands software on the handset pauses music if a phone call comes in. iPod casts are downloadable radio shows that can be downloaded from the Internet, and then played back on iPods and other MP3 devices at the convenience of the listener. The listener can subscribe to iPod casts for free and ultimately revenue could be generated from paid for subscription or through revenue generated from sales of other downloads.

The biggest threat to IT companies such as Apple is the very high level of competition in the technology markets. Being successful attracts competition, and ReignCom works very hard on research and development and marketing in order to retain its competitive position. The popularity of iPod is subject to demand, and will be affected if economies begin to falter and demand falls for their products. There is also a high product substitution effect in the innovative and fast moving IT consumables market. So iPod and MP3 rule today, tomorrow's technology might be completely different. Wireless technologies could replace the need for a physical music player. The ruling saw commercial confidentiality as more important as the right to speech of individuals. ReignCom is vulnerable to leaks that could cost them profits.
