A Personal Brand is the personal identity that stimulates a meaningful emotional response in another person or audience about the qualities or values for which that person or business stands. If brands matter more than ever, then the ability for individuals to build a personal brand has never been more important. Like big corporate brands, all of the people we connect with have some kind of similar emotions and thoughts when they think about us as people. The amazing thing about developing your personal brand online in social networks and by blogging is that you can hone in on connecting with those that have shared values and similar interests. Personal branding and the new media space creates a unique and mutually beneficial relationship. Anyone can express who they are to the world. And, if you're not sure what you have to say that is unique and different, just remember the immortal words of Oscar Wilde: "Be yourself, everyone else is already taken." Many people think that personal branding is just for celebrities such as Paris Hilton or Britney Spears, yet each and every one of us is a brand. Personal branding, by definition, is the process by which we market ourselves to others. As a brand, we can leverage the same strategies that make these celebrities or corporate brands appeal to others. We can build brand equity just like them. Personal branding is unavoidable. As others interact with you, they’ll automatically form mental associations that connect you with certain labels, often within the first few seconds. You can’t avoid being labeled, and other people can’t avoid labeling you. It happens automatically because our brains are wired to recognize patterns and form associations. The labels people attach to you become part of your personal brand. Brand discovery is about figuring out what you want to do for the rest of your life, setting goals, writing down a mission, vision and personal brand statement (what you do and who you serve), as well as creating a development plan. Have you ever been called intelligent or humorous by your peers or coworkers? That description is part of your brand, especially if you feel those attributed pertain to you. To know if you’ve discovered your brand, you need to make this equation equal: Branding in this country has a long history, especially in the retail industry. Giant retailers consistently invest millions to make them foremost in your mind. Once they’re embedded in your mind, you’re programmed to expect certain quality, consistency, and benefits from their product. Then as these companies continue to expose you to their brands and their benefits, the connection grows, until they become synonymous with your particular needs. A brand promises a result and experience you can count on. Most people understand and accept that companies and products have brands and images, which become part of the mental picture in their clients minds. Additionally, individuals in certain professions develop brands and have built client bases around them.

With technology that’s already available and hard work you can create your own. It’s important for us to get as much out of technology as we can. Personal brands can be started by anyone and will grow with them through their life. It’s never been easier or more important to create a personal brand.
