All businesses have to organise what they do.

A clear structure makes it easier to see which part of the business does what

There are many ways to structure a business


Organization structure.


OS refers to the role responsibility relationships of different employees in an organization along with their predefined interaction patterns.


It facilitates the flow of information both vertically & horizontally.

From Management Control point perspective the organization design selected should promote communication, cooperation, teamwork , motivation & performance & should be the one best suited for organization.

According to Richard L Daft the six different structural dimensions ( Basis for formally describing the org structure ) are “formalisation , specialisation , hierarchy of authority , centralisation , professionalism & personnel ratios.
Structural dimensions are based on the contextual dimension.


Ways to Structure a Business

By function: arranging the business according to what each section or department does

By product : organising according to the different products made

By area: geographical or regional structure.

By customer: where different customer groups have different needs
