Nargis Dutt, one of the India’s most iconic actors is honored by Google Doodle today. Nargis dutt was born as Fatima Rashid in 1929, but, popularly known by her on screen name, Nargis. She has been one of the best onscreen performers in 1940’s to 1960’s. Nargis dutt, with her simplicity and elegance in acting has been highly acclaimed. She started her beautiful career as an actor in 1935 as child actor in Talash- E- Haq. In 1942, Bollywood wouldn’t have thought that, a beautiful girl who has just started her career as a main lead actress in Tamanna will become an inspiration and encourages myriads of women to pursue their career in film industry.


During her scintillating career from 1940s to 1960s, she appeared in many highly commercial as well as critically acclaimed films like Awara, Barsaat and shree420. She won the Filmfare Best Actress Award for her outstanding and memorable performance in “Mother India”. Mother India was the first movie to be nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Foreign Language Film category. She was also the first film actress to be honored with the Padma Shri title by the Government of India. The award for best feature film on national integration in the National Awards is titled the 'Nargis Dutt Award' in her reminiscing. She had that zest and dedication to pursue her dream.


She married her ‘Mother India’ co- star Sunil dutt in 1958. They have three children actor Sanjay Dutt, former Congress lawmaker Priya Dutt, and Namrata Dutt. She was also nominated as Rajya Sabha member in 1980 but, her life took a sudden turn and she got succumbed by pancreatic cancer at the age of 51.
