About Matt Gambs
MAn GAMBS JANUARY 29, 2015 BIOGRAPHY
Matt Gambs has an extensive record of busi ness
success and currently serves as an executive at one of
Chicago's largest regional banks. He is also a successful
entrepreneur, foundi ng Go Green Technologies Inc., a
company that develops and invests in engine
technol ogies that use a hydrogen extraction process as
an alternative fuel source.
Matt is passionate about educational policy, because
like so many youth today, he struggled to find early
success i n the public educati on system. Thankfully, his
professi onal educators recognized some of his
challenges and i ntervened to help him overcome what
was diagnosed as a case of dyslexia.
Matt followed his dreams and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after high school,
where he served for six years before being honorably discharged. Like so many veterans,
he was fortunate to be able to attend college through the GI Bill, and he graduated
from Regis Universi ty i n Denver, Col. where he studied economics and politi cal science.
At the age of 33, Gambs was appointed to serve as President and CEO of Bloomi ngdale
Bank and Trust, a local community bank. This experience helped him tremendously when
he was asked to fix a t roubled financial i nstitution during the financial crisis of2008 and
2009.
Gambs was asked to i ni tiate a turnaround of Diamond Bank, which had run i nto
trouble. The bank had run into issues for a variety of reasons that pre-dated Gambs'
tenure as CEO, but mismanagement and poor financial oversi ght, combined with the
financial collapse and credit crunch, strained the bank's balance sheet.
Gambs i nstituted a turnaround pl an that removed existi ng management, self-reported
compliance issues to its regul ator, recapitalized the bank and i mplemented a viable
business pl an. After the turnaround was complete, Diamond Bank was purchased by one
of Chicago's largest regional banks. This transacti on was conducted without any federal
guarantees or involvement, unlike many other financial institutions in Chicago and the
nation.
Duri ng the financi al crisis and bank turnaround, as a board member of the Independent
Community Bankers Association, Gambs was invited to the White House to brief
admi ni stration offi cial s on the state of community banki ng.
Gambs is widely respected i n financial and professional circles. He serves as the volunteer
Chairman of the Board at the Illi nois Chamber of Commerce, bringi ng together businesses
of every si ze, sector and background to work on common i ssues. Gambs has also served
on the boards of numerous busi ness and professional organizations, and is a member of
the Executive Committee of the DuPage Busi ness Council.
