Mascot – defined as a term for any person, animal, or object thought to bring luck – colloquially includes anything used to represent a group with a common public identity, such as a school, professional sports team, society, military unit, or brand name.

As you all know, Mascot is a symbolic representation of a group with a public identity that is common, like a school, professional sports team, army unit, or a well known brand name. Most are used as fictional spokesperson for products such as cereals and other consumer products. They are used to symbolize a number of significant organizations such as sports teams, schools, or consumer production companies.

Often there are fictional animals or cartoon characters that are used to symbolize a team or a cereal brand. Lots of times the logo is what will symbolize the definition of company, for example a turtle shell might symbolize that the company promises strength with the use of product.

Usually individuals are more familiar with the strength and power of natural elements, like a product which is tied to a natural phenomenon. Some consumer companies such as those of cleaning products use actual human beings depicted in the advertisements. The representation should be something that gives individuals the ability to relate to the company and the values the distributors want the consumers to perceive as having.

In a normal setting, the character that is the representative of team traditionally should conceal the identity. In some cases, a person who is acting as the representative could be fired if they say anything. This is true in such cases where there are costumed characters at an amusement park. There are a few rituals a person must adhere to if they are to represent such organizations.

Commonly they are a representation of consumer brand and what the products can do for the benefit of consumer. Ideally, a cartoon character or a symbolic animal is chosen to depict the advertising. A successful team no doubt is successful because of meaning that is carried in the logo. For this reason, it is a critical decision when it comes to selecting the appropriate logo of an organization, raising the bar in what the company can do for the consumer and the family.

Hence, many companies come up with their mascots to be relative and for quick recall too.

'We call him a Maharajah for want of a better description. But his blood isn't blue. He may look like royalty, but he isn't royal.' These are the words of Bobby Kooka, the man who conceived the Maharajah.

The Maharajah began merely as a rich Indian potentate, symbolizing graciousness and high living. And somewhere along the line his creators gave him a distinctive personality: his outsized moustache, the striped turban and his aquiline nose.

What began as an attempt as a design for an inflight memo pad grew to take Air India's sales and promotional messages to millions of travellers across the world. Today, this naughty diminutive Maharajah of Air India has become a world figure. He can be a lover boy in Paris, a sumo wrestler in Tokyo, a pavement artist, a Red Indian, a monk... he can effortlessly flirt with the beauties of the world. And most importantly, he can get away with it all. Simply because he is the Maharajah!

And as with all great men, he too has had his critics. But the millions of travellers whose lives he has touched far outnumber them. In fact, to them, the Maharajah with his inimitable style, charm and wit is a very real person. He's almost like a friend to every Air India traveller. A friend who reaches out with warmth and hospitality, even to the farthest corners of the world.
