In June 2006, it announced the corporate name would change to GCI Technologies, an acronym meaning Gemini, Cortex, and iKey, its three divisions. Consolidation among major aerospace and defense companies has proceeded more rapidly in the United States than it has in other regions of the world, such as Europe. After numerous mergers and acquisitions, three very large companies — the Boeing Company, Lockheed Martin Corporation, and the Raytheon Company — have come to dominate the U.S. aerospace sector. This consolidation has placed enormous pressure on aerospace component suppliers. As those suppliers reposition themselves, they are being forced to improve economies of scale and reduce costs. Recent mergers among major suppliers include Honeywell–AlliedSignal and Hamilton–Sundstrand. Consolidation has been a two-edged sword. On the one hand, it has boosted the U.S. aerospace industry’s international competitiveness, better enabling U.S. companies to win contracts overseas. On the other hand, it has increased pressure to eliminate duplicative jobs. Several merged companies have announced layoffs.
Consolidation of the European aerospace industry is accelerating as national governments and aerospace manufacturers acknowledge the need to integrate their defense and commercial aerospace sectors to reduce operating costs and become more competitive with their U.S. counterparts. European aerospace companies are adopting strategies to streamline processes and increase their flexibility in outsourcing aircraft components.
The number of aerospace manufacturing establishments decreased during the period 1997 to 2002. This was a consolidation period for industry players and occurred during the slump after the events of 9/11.
Not as large as many optimistic estimates
Reports of Twitter usage can vary widely. The company itself reported that as of September 2010, 175 million accounts had been created. Firms that track unique visitors to Twitter.com tallied between approximately 20 million and 26 million per month last year.
But because of duplicate accounts, international users, “Twitter quitters” and the fact that many visitors to Twitter.com are simply reading public tweets and not truly using the service, those numbers are nearly all higher than survey data that asks internet users about their online and mobile habits.
“Twitter users are a sizeable and growing bunch, but their numbers are considerably smaller than those disseminated by many media outlets and Twitter itself,” said Paul Verna, eMarketer senior analyst and author of the new report, “Twitter Users: A Vocal Minority.” “In the US, this means tens of millions of users, as opposed to hundreds of millions.”
eMarketer estimates that 20.6 million US adults will access a Twitter account at least monthly this year, up 26.3% from 16.4 million last year. Growth will continue in the double digits through 2013, when nearly 28 million adults will be Twitter users.
This estimate is primarily based on a meta-analysis of surveys that polled people on their actual use of Twitter, regardless of platform.
A demographic profile of Twitter users from the Pew Internet & American Life Project found that 10% of US female internet users and 7% of US male internet users used Twitter.
The service was decidedly more popular among younger adults, a result supported by other research.
Mobile is a large and growing platform for Twitter users. comScore noted that in January 2011, 7.8 million US mobile device subscribers used Twitter on their phones—a steep 66% increase over the previous January.
“Brands should consider the demographics and usage habits of the Twitter audience as they plan marketing initiatives and ad buys on Twitter,” said Verna. “Setting realistic expectations based on a thorough data analysis will yield better results than getting swept up in overhyped estimates.”
In partial catering service, it is important to maintain the balance between being equipment and people focused, because orders must be taken from the customers, produced in the headquarters of the firm, with accordance to the fixed menu and then deliver it to the site and set up. In addition, the length of customer contact time is considered as low, because the catering firm is only involve in the delivery of the foods and preparation of buffet. Furthermore, the degree of customization is also considered as low because commonly catering firms tend to create their own menu, where in the customers can choose from or ask for some changes in the ingredients or process if possible, but still the degree of adjustment made to respond to the customers is not that high that it will affect the standard procedures and process of the company.
