Fakir Mohan University came into existence in the year 1999 and the university was established by the Government of Orissa under section 32 of the Orissa University Act 1989. The university has earned due recognition from the University Grants Commission Under Section 2 (f) of its Act. The university was actually carved out of the Utkal University and it aims at offering higher education through linkages with a number of institutions and colleges in and around the state of Orissa.
The university has more than 60 colleges under its control to offer education at UG and at PG Level. It has become the best university from the point of view of quality of students and colleges and it has shown its uniqueness by introducing applied courses at PG level in Applied physics and ballistics for the first time in India.
Fakir Mohan University offers education through different departments like social sciences, population studies, business management, information & communication technology, environmental science, biotechnology and applied physics and ballistics. Courses at UG and at PG level are offered by the university through these departments. The university also offers some self-financing courses and some courses through distance education as well.
