It all started at 4 AM

It all started at 4 A.M.

It all started at 4 A.M.

He was juggled from one room to another

Like a ball

Or like a bottle

Though suited-booted

With hands, legs and a face

Each room, hunters waiting for him

Eating, drinking, flaunting, competitive hunters

Some calm and composed, while some aggressive

Discussions- IPL, survival game, forest, ships

No where related, but called process

Selected ones went for interview rounds

He gave interviews, some good ones and some bad

While others were getting selected one by one

There were people like him, not hunted by anyone

And time passed by, but to no good

It was 8 PM now

Finally he was killed and sold

Those two months were still five months away

Yes, he was sold to an IT organization

With a dream stipend he dreamt of

It was the best movie of his life

In the fourteen hours of selection

He saw every emotion possible

Happiness, tears, anger, frustration

It had its curves when it was at peak

And when it was slow

And when it was slow

It kept him puzzled

Why so rush,

Where is the logic

It is recruitment or

Is it an animal fair?

Brains can only come up with such a no-brainer concept

Salute to the discoverer who must be a HR

The day ended and

Five months later…

It started with a one day orientation program in Mumbai

Where he learnt about the business

And how this is the best organization he can dream of

HR came; sales came and came the pizzas

Equipped with laptops, data cards and other details

He was sent to Bangalore

Bangalore was beautiful

And organization’s campus was “Just Superb”

23 acres, lush green, 50+ bird species, zero waste

Lovable, adorable, soothing it was to his heart and soul

A cubicle was made his den for the next two months

And he met two bosses-North and South

North was stern and ruling

And did not liked him at all

Because he was honest to put his opinion

This according to North was not the corporate way

To put things across the table

He hated the openness and so said fake open-door policy

He wondered about theory in practice and theory in use?

South was the boss to look for, a fatherly figure

Lucky enough, South was his project guide

South headed recruitment

And so he became a part of a wonderful team

Called “The Recruiters”

A fun loving, caring and energetic team

Looking for quality project,

He got a project on “quality of hire”

An upcoming concept in HR analytics

And strategic HR,

A new concept, not explored much

A challenge and an opportunity is what he saw

To explore the concept,

He talked across organization, across borders and across industries

He made surveys, came up with a model

Ran trial runs and did number crunching

Suggested recommendations and made final presentation

Awarded certificate of exemplary work

Yes, He enjoyed the work, enjoyed the life

He learnt from people around

And learnt from South

Whose experience was like gold

And he heard carefully to learn the tricks of trade

Apart from work, he was part of movie making,

Dance sessions, obvious parties and SPL

Yes, he was sold for Rs. 1200 for this IPL based cricket game

So less this time, but fun it was

Fun, friends and future

He got all three F’s there

Luckily enough, the ball which was juggled

In the roulette of recruitment

Landed into a safe place

Smile, smile and smile

And it will be 4 AM when it will all start again.

Good luck, bad luck this time, who knows?

-He, him and himself J

[1] He got a stipend of 1 lakh per month and he weighed 70kg.

its really true, who knows what is bad and what is good,,, so friends start living the life in your ways that gives u the most happiness and strength,,, live the life u love,,,,,

Summer Internship Experience – A Poetic Ride Through Recruitment and Reality (400-word Summary)

This unique narrative captures a management student’s summer internship experience through poetic storytelling, blending humor, satire, and personal insight. Beginning at 4 A.M., the story unfolds in a surreal recruitment process — likened to a chaotic hunting ground — filled with interviews, long hours, and emotional roller coasters. In a scene reminiscent of an "animal fair," the candidate, though well-dressed and well-spoken, is tossed from room to room by a faceless, hyper-competitive system. After 14 hours of anticipation, anxiety, and watching others succeed, he is finally “killed and sold” — offered an internship by a reputed IT organization.

Fast forward five months: the journey begins with an orientation in Mumbai, where grand promises, business jargon, and pizza-filled sessions set the stage. Soon, he’s in Bangalore — a city he finds beautiful, working from a serene 23-acre campus alive with greenery and biodiversity. Assigned a cubicle, he meets two contrasting bosses: the authoritarian “North” who disapproves of honesty and openness, and the nurturing “South” who becomes his guide and mentor.

His project on "Quality of Hire" — a new area within HR analytics — turns into a fulfilling challenge. Through cross-industry research, surveys, and model-building, he constructs strategic recommendations and presents them successfully. His efforts are recognized with a certificate for exemplary work. Outside the project, his time is peppered with fun: movie-making, dancing, parties, and even an internal cricket league (SPL), where he’s “sold” for Rs. 1,200 — a nod to the tongue-in-cheek satire of corporate gamification.

What makes this experience stand out is its honest reflection of both the absurdity and beauty of the corporate internship process. It highlights not just professional growth but emotional maturity, social bonding, and the unpredictable nature of career beginnings. From being a faceless candidate in a “survival game” to finding mentorship, fun, and fulfillment — the journey is one of discovery and contrast.

The poem closes on a poignant note: “It will be 4 AM when it will all start again,” suggesting that this cycle of anxiety, opportunity, and unpredictability continues — in placements, jobs, and life. But this time, with a smile, experience, and perhaps a little more hope.

A story of transformation, told through metaphors, memories, and meaning.
