Is work exp. absolutely important for an MBA ?

a work exp gives exposure of the real corporate world, helping one understnd hw to deal in situations practically. it wil no doubt b of great help whyl doin MBA..bt i believ if da person has good grasping skills, thn evn if he dsnt hv any work-ex, it wudnt matter coz in the end it depends on evry individual's capability.

Yes, the managment has to earn from you atleast 75% of what they pay in the form of your contribution. You can get trained only 25% by the company, therefore work exp is absolutely important:SugarwareZ-146:

A worker knows better about his job when given to manage the same...
So exp is a great power for MBAs to run up they ladder not just climb...

I would say Yes.. primarily for two reasons.. firstly you should know whtat you are studying in MBA and how you are going to apply it... and secondly its always better to work for an year or two then go for masters in my personal opinion as it certainly helps u gain more at a professional level.

Yes, It's obviosu to have work experience to undertake the MBA. This can give you to understand and digest the dynamic nature of Management, which will further help you in career growth.

It doesnt really matter...coz once you start working usually u loose the tempo of studying n to come back again and prepare for studies is a bit difficult...

As it always has been, the topic is highly debateable! Yeah, the work-ex is not sth that u cant do without (except the cases where colleges make it mandatory).. but having a work ex is better as it helps u relate few concepts learnt in classroom(or discussions held therein) quite well to what u have seen/faced/experienced in ur work life! Helps u make a better manager of urself.. u will experience everything once u r on the job, but havin a work ex before joining mba makes u better prepared for wts coming up!
Ultimately, its an individual's his/her own preferences.

I strongly support the fact that Work Ex is necessary in few cases. I don't mean experience is necessary to relate things with whats happening in practical scenario. Instead it helps the way you approach your studies. I have seen freshers wanting to only study from the books, whereas MBA is not about only mugging from your books.

Will post more comments on this in few moments

I think it is important to have work exp. MBA is fast-paced and generally relates to real-life work situations. You can relate your exp. to the theories, and understand them better, and even challenge some theories based on the experiences you've had. Overall, everything would make more sense to you. Some times you learn all these theories and concepts, then get into the work environment and there are all these variations to what you've learned.

i think work exp is important if u r doin mba frm ok type college as it provide u an edge ovr ur batchmates during the times of placements

no! notat ll! work experience at the timee of joining MBA is jz like a cherry on top of the big part cake! itz jz onee added certification to ur credentials! and nothing more, coz if u take it as THE IMPORTANT criteria for joining MBA, then where aare the freshers going to go? u c, d chain will continue itself , n will continue to throw out the freshers from itz way. every firm will employ MBA ppl with work ex, every colg will take only work ex ppl, then where shud freshers go, when there is clear screen hell lot of demotivation everywhere!:SugarwareZ-249:

post in ur opinion .... how much do you work exp is helpful ?? or is it better to finish studying right after college so that one wouldn't get diverted and lose interest in studying an MBA

It is absolutely important though not mandatory but in the coming few years, i think the top management institutes will make it mandatory.

Work isn´t important if you want to go to clases, but your fellow classmates would like a group full of working profesional that ways the discussion and the interaction between calssmates can be better. For me the MBA isn´t only about reading a book I think I have leand more from hearing my classmates

I think management education ought to be differentiated from other education. Since it is purely practical application of theoretical frameworks, one with work experience derives much more from such an education than onbe without

i feel work exp. is very important before one goes for MBA because then one can relate the concepts with the real life scenarios.
totally agree.............................................

Yes. It may not be only in the same Management field we try to start with in Management. Also it depends upon how we present ourself as a candidate. If a fresher with only management degree in hand, a good planned prject work will have some weightage.
