The total investments of the Bank increased from Rs.8861.61 Crore as on 31.3.2003 to Rs.9830.34 crore as on 31.3.2004, registering a growth of 10.94%. The interest income from investments recorded a growth rate of 7.76% during the year, which is lower than the previous year on account of declining trends in the interest rates. Despite decline in interest rate during the year, the average yield on investments was maintained at 9.66% as against 10.49% during the year 2002-2003.



The total profit due to sale of investments during 2003-2004 was substantially higher at Rs.343.65 crore as against Rs.225.09 crore recorded in 2003-2003.



The liquidity position of the Bank was generally comfortable throughout the year. The Bank has complied with CRR/SLR requirements. In order to improve the overall yield on the available short term surplus funds, in addition to the call money / repo lending, the Bank deployed funds in alternate avenues such as inter bank short term deposits, units of mutual funds etc.,
