ABSTRACT. The increase use of information in Malaysia Ministry of
Higher Education (MOHE) is resulted from the process of huge and
complex data in several stages and at different locations. This situation leads
to the difficulties of data management and prolematic usage for decision
ma!ing. "usiness #ntelligence ("#)$ %hich is$ the process of collecting$
analy&ing$ and transforming data using 'ata (arehouse ('() is seen as
one of the gro%ing approaches to provide meaningful information. The
MOHE is responsile for managing various activities to promote the
graduate entrepreneurs to venture into the usiness and ensure the country
has many successful entrepreneurs. Therefore$ systematic and accurate
information needs to e availale for planning$ implementation$ and
monitoring entrepreneurs) performances. This paper proposes the modeling
and designing of the graduate entrepreneur profile application called
#ntelligent *rofile +nalysis ,raduate Entrepreneur (i*+,E) using "#
technologies and supporting y a '( approach. T%o main methodologies
%ere used namely- .e/uirements 0entric Operational 'ata 1tore (.e0O'1)
and .apid +pplication 'evelopment (.+') to develop this system. The
i*+,E system %as validated and evaluated y i*+,E users and '(
experts. #t is used to e a guideline for the development of an entrepreneur
information system in the future.

INTRODUCTION
Today)s Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) usiness environment re/uires /uality
information to evaluate the performance of the ministry$ understand the needs of customers$
competitors and identify the aility to ma!e decisions %ithin the organi&ation. The use of
information technology is seen as advantages for MOHE to manage the information y
developing various application systems to support the operation of the usiness. Thus$ more
and more application systems have een developed to lead MOHE to manage large amounts
of data and the %ealth of information in organi&ations. #n addition$ the data is processed in the
current application system consists of several stages$ various applications and placed in
different departments. This situation %ill lead management difficulty and prolematic to
ac/uire accurate information for ma!ing decisions %ithin the organi&ation (Mohanty$ 23345
.ainer et al.$ 2336). One of the crucial information is student entrepreneurs in #nstitution of
Higher 7earning (#H7).
The MOHE has set a target to ma!e the students of the #nstitution of Higher 7earning
(#H7) to e excellent in academic and ecome a successful and !no%ledgeale entrepreneur
after graduation. #t is important for entrepreneurs to compete %here they have the !no%ledge

to plan and manage the usiness %ell to face the usiness %orld that increasingly complex
and competitive. 0onse/uently$ MOHE has set up entrepreneurial units$ committees$ councils
and cooperation et%een the universities to conduct entrepreneurial culture programs such as
,raduate Entrepreneurship *rogram (,E*) and the 1tudent in 9ree Enterprise (1#9E).
0urrently$ the MOHE did not have complete information for the analysis of entrepreneurial
profiles that determines the success or failure of the entrepreneur programs. #n addition$ the
MOHE must monitor entrepreneurial units in more than 23 universities that have different
organi&ational structure$ scope and entrepreneurship programs. #n :niversiti :tara Malaysia
:M)$ this unit is 0ooperative and Entrepreneurship 'evelopment #nstitute (0E'#).
Therefore$ the o;ective of this paper is to present the development of the #ntelligent *rofile
+nalysis ,raduate Entrepreneur (i*+,E) system y using "# approach.
RELATED LITERATURE
The study involved a numer of theories related to information processing in organi&ations
such as Organi&ation #nformation *rocessing Theory (O#*T) and + 1ystems Theory of
"usiness #ntelligence. These theories %ere used as the asis of this study to understand the
relationship et%een an organi&ation$ information processing activities and the importance of
information in an organi&ation. "ased on these theories$ the research is conducted and
includes all the entities that exist in an environment of resource information systems in an
organi&ation$ regardless the internal or external sources of data. #mportantly$ understand the
environmental conditions and methods for connecting these system entities need to e
considered to ensure the developed system can run smoothly and achieve the organi&ational
goals. O'1$ '( and "# technology is innovation that resulted in a complex process in %hich
information technology can e contriuted to the O#*T for information creation and
dissemination %ithin the organi&ation.

"# is an approach used y organi&ations today to get a etter /uality and strategic of
information to predict the future trend. ,artner (2313) predicts y 2312 more than <= percent
of =$333 large companies fail to ma!e the right decisions related to usiness and mar!eting
due to insufficient information. +dditionally$ in the same year$ >3 percent of the overall
information technology udget %ill e invested in "# applications to otain accurate usiness
information. There are many studies discussed the implementation of "# applications in the
organi&ation. #n the health sector$ "# is used to integrate the o;ectives of the organi&ation
%ith information technology as a component of an integrated management model in health
care. ,enerally$ the coordination et%een usiness and information strategy in a an!ing
sector is to help the an!s more competitive. Moreover$ "# pro;ects are implemented in the
areas of utilities such as electricity$ gas and %ater supply.
O&er'"io!'# D'"' S"ore (ODS)
#nmon (1888) defines the O'1 as ?an architectural construct that is su;ect oriented$
integrated$ volatile$ current valued$ and contains only corporate detailed data?. #n different
angle of system development$ "aragoin et al. (2331) define as ?an environment %here data
from a different operational dataase is integrated.? Many researchers have included O'1 in
the operational data integration to provide integrated information to the user community
%ithin the organi&ation. @imall and .oss (2332) also said the O'1 is a data component that
can e positioned along the '( system development. The approach that comines the O'1
and '( technology have successfully provided a "# environment to support strategic and
tactical information %ithin an organi&ation. This research focused on the O'1 approach in
modeling and designing the "# system for graduate entrepreneurs in #H7.

,raduate entrepreneur is an entrepreneur %ho plans$ manage and develop individual
usiness or group in the context of the entrepreneur university program. This entrepreneur
refers to t%o categories- graduate entrepreneur and +is,aniaga entrepreneur. +is,aniaga
entrepreneurs are university students %ho are studying in university and conducting usiness
under the monitoring and supervision of the university entrepreneur units. The encouragement
of a graduate entrepreneur aims to develop !no%ledgeale entrepreneurs %ho can support
economy as %ell as usiness culture among graduate students. +mong the programs
organi&ed y the government are the ,raduate Entrepreneur 1cheme (,E1)$ the ,raduate
Entrepreneurs 9und (,E9)$ 1tudent Entrepreneur Training (1ET)$ 1tudent Entrepreneurial
*rogram (1E*)$ and ,raduate 'evelopment *rogram (,'*). 1E* is supported y the
:niversity Entrepreneur :nit and :niversity 1tudent Entrepreneurship 0ouncil Malaysia
(M+@M:M)$ %hich %as estalished to coordinate and monitor the implementation of the
1mall Medium "usiness Enterprise (1MEs) at the university level.
ODS MODEL FOR iPAGE
i*+,E application development is focused on the use of the O'1 data model in "#
application development approach. O'1 data model capale of integrating data from
heterogeneous data sources and structure that can facilitate the construction of the operational$
tactical and analytical reporting. Thus$ analysis of re/uirements and development of i*+,E
applications re/uire a suitale model to ensure the o;ectives of "# applications are achieved.
There are t%o main methods used- .e/uirement 0entric Operational 'ata 1tore (.e0O'1) to
determine the needs of i*+,E applications and .apid +pplication 'evelopment (.+') that
used to design and develop i*+,E system.
ReCODS Mode#
.e0O'1 model that focuses on the analysis re/uirements of "# is using the O'1 data
model to develop this i*+,E application. #n this model$ the re/uirement analysis %as divided
into t%o phases- Organi&ation 7evel .e/uirements and O'1 7evel .e/uirements (1hahani
A Borshuhada$ 2338). #n each phase$ the activity %as involving re/uirement gathering
process and analy&ing information. The organi&ational level re/uirements) phase egins y
defining the usiness domain and ends %ith the re/uirements) specification of the
organi&ation. Mean%hile$ the O'1 level re/uirement)s phases %ere determining %hich of the
su;ect areas and producing the O'1 re/uirement)s specification. 9or re/uirement gathering$
three orientation approaches %ere used- usinessCoriented$ dataCoriented and consumerC
oriented. These approaches are presented in .e0O'1 model as sho%n in 9igure 1.

#n O'1 re/uirement phase$ the collection and analysis re/uirements %ere focused on the
su;ect areas that have een set from the previous phase. This phase involves five steps-
determining the su;ect areas$ re/uirement gathering of su;ect areas$ the analysis of su;ect
areas$ determine the O'1 operation$ and specify the O'1 re/uirements) specifications. #n this
phase$ re/uirement gathering and analy&ing are more focused to develop i*+,E applications.
ReCODS Ar%+i"e%"re
.e0O'1 architecture descries the process of getting a %hole re/uirement to develop
i*+,E applications that focused on the structure of the O'1 data as illustrated in 9igure 2.
This architecture egins y determining the community involved in the i*+,E applications$
such as the MOHE$ 0E'#$ M+@M:M$ entrepreneurs$ and developers. These communities
involved in the application development are interacted y manual or online communications
to discuss aout the application re/uirements. #n addition$ this architecture also is connected
to the existing applications to e integrated into the structure of i*+,E data. 9urthermore$ the
functions of extract$ transform$ load (ET7) egins %ith data collection from various sources$
interpreting and entering data (load) into the O'1 component. The updating of data sources
from transaction systems should e coordinated %ith the data in the i*+,E application to
ensure the information is accurate %ithin the given time variant. 0learly$ the architecture
focuses on the presentation of information in the form of a pyramid of information$ %hich is
classified the information into an operational$ tactical and analytical report.
RAD Me"+odo#o$y
The methodology used to develop i*+,E application is .+' that utili&ed to support the
development of t%o main applications of i*+,E- (e *ortal Entrepreneur *rofile and
Entrepreneur *rofiles 1ystem. .+' chosen to develop i*+,E ecause this methodology
provides a systematic plan for system development life cycle$ %hich comines t%o techni/ues
of evolutionary prototyping and development phases. These techni/ues are comined %ith
.e0O'1 model to support the need "# components as depicted in 9igure <.

functions for inserting and storing data in a dataase$ and displays the data through the screen
in/uiries and reports. i*+,E has t%o main system components that focus on different
functions and roles to users$ namely- (e Entrepreneur *rofile that contains the functions for
managing and accessing entrepreneurs profiles$ and *ortal Entrepreneur *rofile$ %hich act as
dispersal agents for entrepreneur information to entrepreneurs$ universities$ MOHE$ and
pulic.

The design of %e entrepreneur profiles is conducted in steps- re/uirements analysis$
process design$ dataase design$ interface design$ and reports or /ueries design. #n
re/uirements analysis$ the re/uirements are identified as entrepreneur profile$ academic
profile$ fund profile$ usiness profile$ and entrepreneurship program. #n short$ part of the
design process is sho%n in the :se 0ase diagram model sho%n in 9igure >.

*rocess flo% for each use case is represented y the activity diagram. The activity diagram
for inserting and verifying the entrepreneur profiles data egin y revie%ing the data received
from the entrepreneurs of each university. This process is continued for all the re/uirements
specified. The dataase design strategy is ased on attriutes that exist for every entity from
the re/uirements analysis and represented y class diagram model.

This application serves to disseminate entrepreneurDs information more easily and
understood y users. The information presented is ased on an entrepreneur ra% data that
processed and analy&ed entrepreneurs through "# functionalities. The information is accessed
through the portal personali&ation features and the latest security system. #mportantly$ the ra%
data is provided in dimension modeling$ %hich focused on fact$ dimension$ and measure as
sho%n in 9igure =. To allo% data sources availale for the '( entrepreneurs$ an important
process ET7 is implemented. ET7 process that involves dra%ing$ cleaning$ merging$
conversion$ and other activities conducted accordance to the design of ET7 processes that
determined y the developer. The ET7 processes design is defined y a 7ogical 'ata Map
(7'M) method.
The types of reports in the portal can e classified as a simple$ detail$ statistics$ and
analysis. These reports are generated from the data %arehouse architecture y "#
functionalities. The examples of report design are sho%n in 9igure 4. 9ormative testing %as
conducted to ensure the i*+,E function is %or!ing properly$ particularly in terms of
usaility$ easy to use and meet the needs of the users. #n addition$ the assessment for i*+,E
in the "# environment is also made y involving i*+,E users$ '( experts and
entrepreneurship su;ect domain expert.

CONCLUSION
The development of %e entrepreneur profile and %e entrepreneur portal has een
successfully implemented and used to e implemented in a real environment. "oth %ere
incorporated in i*+,E system that complements the concept of operational system and "# in
an information system. #nformation provided may e directly accessile y users through the
various stages of portal facilities. Testing and evaluation system has een sho%n that i*+,E
is very suitale for applications in a "# environment that is ased on data %arehousing
technology. Ho%ever$ user feedac! is important to ensure conformity %ith the re/uirements
analysis and reporting of the information re/uired. This has een proven in i*+,E validation
and evaluation.

under the monitoring and supervision of the university entrepreneur units. The encouragement
of a graduate entrepreneur aims to develop !no%ledgeale entrepreneurs %ho can support
economy as %ell as usiness culture among graduate students. +mong the programs
organi&ed y the government are the ,raduate Entrepreneur 1cheme (,E1)$ the ,raduate
Entrepreneurs 9und (,E9)$ 1tudent Entrepreneur Training (1ET)$ 1tudent Entrepreneurial
*rogram (1E*)$ and ,raduate 'evelopment *rogram (,'*). 1E* is supported y the
:niversity Entrepreneur :nit and :niversity 1tudent Entrepreneurship 0ouncil Malaysia
(M+@M:M)$ %hich %as estalished to coordinate and monitor the implementation of the
1mall Medium "usiness Enterprise (1MEs) at the university level.

i*+,E application development is focused on the use of the O'1 data model in "#
application development approach. O'1 data model capale of integrating data from
heterogeneous data sources and structure that can facilitate the construction of the operational$
tactical and analytical reporting. Thus$ analysis of re/uirements and development of i*+,E
applications re/uire a suitale model to ensure the o;ectives of "# applications are achieved.
There are t%o main methods used- .e/uirement 0entric Operational 'ata 1tore (.e0O'1) to
determine the needs of i*+,E applications and .apid +pplication 'evelopment (.+') that
used to design and develop i*+,E system.
ReCODS Mode#
.e0O'1 model that focuses on the analysis re/uirements of "# is using the O'1 data
model to develop this i*+,E application. #n this model$ the re/uirement analysis %as divided
into t%o phases- Organi&ation 7evel .e/uirements and O'1 7evel .e/uirements (1hahani
A Borshuhada$ 2338). #n each phase$ the activity %as involving re/uirement gathering
process and analy&ing information. The organi&ational level re/uirements) phase egins y
defining the usiness domain and ends %ith the re/uirements) specification of the
organi&ation. Mean%hile$ the O'1 level re/uirement)s phases %ere determining %hich of the
su;ect areas and producing the O'1 re/uirement)s specification. 9or re/uirement gathering$
three orientation approaches %ere used- usinessCoriented$ dataCoriented and consumerC

#n O'1 re/uirement phase$ the collection and analysis re/uirements %ere focused on the
su;ect areas that have een set from the previous phase. This phase involves five steps-
determining the su;ect areas$ re/uirement gathering of su;ect areas$ the analysis of su;ect
areas$ determine the O'1 operation$ and specify the O'1 re/uirements) specifications. #n this
phase$ re/uirement gathering and analy&ing are more focused to develop i*+,E applications.
ReCODS Ar%+i"e%"re
.e0O'1 architecture descries the process of getting a %hole re/uirement to develop
i*+,E applications that focused on the structure of the O'1 data as illustrated in 9igure 2.
This architecture egins y determining the community involved in the i*+,E applications$
such as the MOHE$ 0E'#$ M+@M:M$ entrepreneurs$ and developers. These communities
involved in the application development are interacted y manual or online communications
to discuss aout the application re/uirements. #n addition$ this architecture also is connected
to the existing applications to e integrated into the structure of i*+,E data. 9urthermore$ the
functions of extract$ transform$ load (ET7) egins %ith data collection from various sources$
interpreting and entering data (load) into the O'1 component. The updating of data sources
from transaction systems should e coordinated %ith the data in the i*+,E application to
ensure the information is accurate %ithin the given time variant. 0learly$ the architecture
focuses on the presentation of information in the form of a pyramid of information$ %hich is
classified the information into an operational$ tactical and analytical report.
RAD Me"+odo#o$y
The methodology used to develop i*+,E application is .+' that utili&ed to support the
development of t%o main applications of i*+,E- (e *ortal Entrepreneur *rofile and
Entrepreneur *rofiles 1ystem. .+' chosen to develop i*+,E ecause this methodology
provides a systematic plan for system development life cycle$ %hich comines t%o techni/ues
of evolutionary prototyping and development phases. These techni/ues are comined %ith
.e0O'1 model to support the need "# components as depicted in 9igure <.

process design$ dataase design$ interface design$ and reports or /ueries design. #n
re/uirements analysis$ the re/uirements are identified as entrepreneur profile$ academic
profile$ fund profile$ usiness profile$ and entrepreneurship program. #n short$ part of the

for inserting and verifying the entrepreneur profiles data egin y revie%ing the data received

specified. The dataase design strategy is ased on attriutes that exist for every entity from
the re/uirements analysis and represented y class diagram model.

This application serves to disseminate entrepreneurDs information more easily and
understood y users. The information presented is ased on an entrepreneur ra% data that
processed and analy&ed entrepreneurs through "# functionalities. The information is accessed
through the portal personali&ation features and the latest security system. #mportantly$ the ra%
data is provided in dimension modeling$ %hich focused on fact$ dimension$ and measure as
sho%n in 9igure =. To allo% data sources availale for the '( entrepreneurs$ an important
process ET7 is implemented. ET7 process that involves dra%ing$ cleaning$ merging$
conversion$ and other activities conducted accordance to the design of ET7 processes that
determined y the developer. The ET7 processes design is defined y a 7ogical 'ata Map
(7'M) method.
The types of reports in the portal can e classified as a simple$ detail$ statistics$ and
analysis. These reports are generated from the data %arehouse architecture y "#
functionalities. The examples of report design are sho%n in 9igure 4. 9ormative testing %as
conducted to ensure the i*+,E function is %or!ing properly$ particularly in terms of
usaility$ easy to use and meet the needs of the users. #n addition$ the assessment for i*+,E
in the "# environment is also made y involving i*+,E users$ '( experts and
entrepreneurship su;ect domain expert.

CONCLUSION
The development of %e entrepreneur profile and %e entrepreneur portal has een
successfully implemented and used to e implemented in a real environment. "oth %ere
incorporated in i*+,E system that complements the concept of operational system and "# in
an information system. #nformation provided may e directly accessile y users through the
various stages of portal facilities. Testing and evaluation system has een sho%n that i*+,E
is very suitale for applications in a "# environment that is ased on data %arehousing
technology. Ho%ever$ user feedac! is important to ensure conformity %ith the re/uirements
analysis and reporting of the information re/uired. This has een proven in i*+,E validation
and evaluation.
