Fellow Programme in Management (FPM)
(Equivalent to Ph.D.)

The Programme

The Fellow Programme is the doctoral-level programme of the Institute which is recognised as equivalent to a Ph.D. by the Association of Indian Universities and the
Government of India. The programme aims to build in the candidates the perspectives of the specialist, the researcher, and the academician. The program equips students for careers in teaching and research, as staff-level specialists in functional areas in corporate, government, non-government and international organisations, and as consultants. The programme has the first year in common with the Post Graduate Programme. Beyond the second year, FPM students work on advanced courses and for their doctoral thesis.

Eligibility

Post Graduates in any discipline (or those with professional qualifications such as CA, ICWA, and CS considered equivalent to a post-graduate degree) with at least 55% aggregate marks who also have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification obtained after a minimum of three years of course work subsequent to higher secondary schooling (10 + 2) or equivalent. If applying to the Corporate Strategy & Policy area, these candidates must have a minimum of two years of work experience after post-graduation. Other areas do not require work experience from post-graduate candidates.

OR

Engineering graduates with B.E. / B.Tech. / B.Sc. Engineering degrees with at least 60% aggregate marks and two years of work experience after graduation.

We encourage candidates to submit valid test scores from either CAT (2008), or GMAT (taken after March 2004), or GRE (taken after March 2004), or GATE (2007 or later), but will also accept applications without any test score. Candidates taking the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) must have the official result reported to the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB). The GRE Code Number for IIMB Fellow Programme in Management is 7385.

Condition

The Master’s Degree or equivalent qualification / Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification should be from any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the
central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India. The Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10 + 2) or equivalent.

Candidates in the final year of their Master’s Degree / equivalent qualification can also apply. Such candidates, if selected, will be allowed to join the programme provisionally only if they submit a certificate latest by June 30, 2009 from the Principal / Head of the Department / Registrar or Director of the University / Institute(issued on or before June 30, 2009) stating that they have appeared for the examination (including practicals) in all the subjects required for obtaining the master’s degree/equivalent qualification. Their admission will be confirmed only when they submit the original mark sheet and certificate of having passed the Master’s Degree / equivalent qualification referred to in the certificate issued by Principal / Registrar of the college / institute. The last date for submission of original mark sheet and certificate is December 31, 2009. Please note that those candidates who have applied on the basis of their Master’s Degree will have to meet the requirement of minimum 55% marks stipulation. Non-fulfilment of these conditions will automatically result in the cancellation of the provisional admission.

Selection

FPM applicants will be short-listed on the basis of their performance in the CAT, GATE, GMAT, GRE, and academic background, work experience. Suitable candidates will be called to Bangalore for a Research Aptitude Test (RAT) and Interview for final selection.

Waivers

PGDMs from the IIMs who graduated on or after 2000, with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75 out of a maximum of 4 (or equivalent), need not take the first year PGP courses. These candidates, if selected for the FPM Programme, are required to join the programme in June, 2009.

PGSEMs and PGPPMs from IIM-B who graduated on or after 2000, with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75 out of a maximum of 4 (or equivalent), need not take the first year PGP courses. However, PGPPM candidates may be asked to take one or more first year PGP courses, if they join an area other than the Public Policy.

Financial Support

FPM at IIM-B provides one of the best financial packages for doctoral students in the country. Our FPM students do not pay tuition and hostel rent and get paid a modest
stipend and some contingency support. FPM students get a stipend of Rs. 15,000 per month, up to Rs. 150,000 during the programme in contingency support to meet academic expenses and Rs. 100,000 for participating in conferences abroad during the programme. In addition, FPM students have opportunities to work as Teaching Assistant or Research Assistant for which they get paid extra. A few scholarships are also available to students from second year onwards.

FPM Application Forms are issued free of cost on request from 1st August 2008. Please write to FPM Office, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, Bannerghatta Road, Bangalore - 560076, with a self-addressed envelope size (9" x 12") affixed with stamps for Rs. 75/- and a self-addressed slip. The application forms can also be downloaded from IIM-B website www.iimb.ernet.in from 1st August 2008.

Last Dates
