Adi Godrej is one of the icons of Indian Industry. He is the chairman of Godrej Group. .Adi Godrej was born in a business family. His father's name was Burjorji Godrej and his mother's name was Jai Godrej. More than a century age, the Godrej's were into manufacturing locks and vegetable-based soaps. The Godrej products were among the first indigenously manufactured products to displace entrenched foreign brands.

Adi Godrej left India at the age of 17 to enroll at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Though he planned to study mechanical engineering but he later on switched to management. After his return to India, Adi Godrej joined the family business. He modernized and systematized management structures and implemented process improvements. Adi Godrej took the Godrej Group to great height during controlled economy era.

After the liberalization process, Adi Godrej restructured company's policies to meet the challenges of globalisation. In the early 2000s, the Group completed a 10-year restructuring process through which each business became a stand-alone company with a CEO/COO from outside the Godrej family.

Under Adi Godrej's leadership, the group is also involved in philanthropic activities. Aroon Purie is an Indian businessman, and the founder & editor in chief of India Today, a leading newsmagazine of India. He has served as editor of the magazine since founding it in 1975. India Today is printed in several languages other than English.

A chartered accountant, Purie first revived Thomson Press. He then set up Living Media to publish India Today, which has redefined magazine journalism in the country. The India Today group which has grown out of the magazine, is one of the largest media conglomerates in India.

Aroon was educated at the Doon School, as were two editors of India Today (Suman Dubey and Inderjit Bhadwar). He earned a BSc Economics from the London School of Economics in 1965. He is married to Rekha Purie,a former model. He has 3 children, Kalli Purie, Koel Purieand Ankur Purie. His brother-in-law is the famous heart surgeon, Dr. Naresh Trehan.

India Today magazine was started by Aroon Purie's father, V.V.Purie and his sister Madhu Trehan. Aroon Purie had nothing to do with it until he took it over two years later when his sister returned to the United States and they couldn't keep any editor they hired. His sister Madhu Trehan was also instrumental in taking the India Today group into the television media, when she started Newstrack and then Aaj Tak. Aroon Purie"s youngest sister, Mandira Purie worked as a photojournalist with India Today.

Programmes of the Azim Premji Foundation focus on "creating effective and scalable models that significantly improve the quality of learning in the school and ensure satisfactory ownership by the community in the management of the school". Azim Premji Foundation says it "dedicates itself to the cause of Universalization of Elementary Education in India". The organisation has over the years been instrumental in improving the quality of general education, particularly in rural schools.

Citing a technology initiative, the Foundation reported: "Think of a single PC with three display terminals, three keyboards and three 'mouses', which can be simultaneously used as if they are three independent computers". This innovative idea from the Azim Premji Foundation is being deployed in the computer aided learning centre at the Byatarayanapura Higher Primary School in Bangalore South District and in another school.

Five new titles of educational CDs for Indian schools were produced earlier in 2005. They are: Friendly Animals and Journey on the Clouds (English), Swatantra Divas, Fun with Chinchoo in Mathematics and Khel-Mel (Hindi), released in February 2005. With these, the total number of master titles available is 70.

There are now 68 titles in Karnataka, 42 for Andhra Pradesh, 35 for Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry, 18 for Urdu medium schools, six for Orissa, 14 for Gujarat, 3 for Punjab and 1 for Kerala.

This Foundation is also involved in computer-based assessment in Andhra Pradesh (50,000 students took part in early 2005), a learning guarantee programme, and a policy planning unit in Karnataka.
