IIMA’s Team Emerges on Top at the Global Marketing Competition
Ahmedabad, 28th July, 2011.
The team from IIM Ahmedabad made the institute proud by winning the 16th edition of the Global Marketing Competition, an international contest organised by the ESIC Business and Marketing School, Madrid, Spain and sponsored by Banco Santander. The team members Parampreet Singh Bhasin, Varsha Verma and Parimal Lokhande have won themselves a Master Specialised from ESIC and 12,000 euros worth of prize money.
More than 4100 university students from 76 countries participated in the competition which was conducted over a 3 month period and required participants to test their knowledge and skills in a business simulated environment. Out of 1300 teams that initially participated, 36 teams qualified for the semi-finals out of which 6 teams moved over to the finals. The competition is highly regarded and known for strengthening links between students, academia and the industry. Parampreet, one of the IIMA team members said “The best part of the competition was that we were pitted against real people from all over the world at all points. The business environment was not computer generated – it was made up of students like us making decisions that would change our strategy”.
The finals were held live in Madrid from 16th to 21st July and the teams had to defend their business plans in front of a professional jury. The team from IIMA overcame the other 5 teams from Catholic University of Peru, the Mudra Institute of Communications in India, Moscow Bauman Satte University of Russia, the Pacific University of Peru and the Sakarya University of Istanbul in Turkey. “It was amazing to reach the finals and actually interact with students from other business schools. The experience of meeting faculty, industry persons and students at such a prestigious international platform is something we will always treasure” said Parimal, one of the IIMA team members.
This is milestone in the achievements of IIMA students and demonstrates that the institute is a force to reckon with all over the globe.
