There is no doubt that application of positive psychology or strength-based approach in an organization can help to improve the entire human resource management aspect, thus can help to motivate the employees to perform at their best, therefore, reflecting on the overall performance of the organization. However, just like other approaches, it has its own share of flaws or disadvantages, primarily on the perspective of the employees and the entire organization.

One of the primary disadvantages of strength-based approach is that it primarily focuses on the strength, thus, there will be a great possibility that the entire management of the organization will focus on the strengths of individual. Another thing is that it focuses on the different limitations such as generalization where in the approach will not focus on the different weaknesses of the individual that is important in the process of developing other policies and regulations inside the organization. Thus, there is a great possibility that an individual will no longer be developed in other aspects or fields, unlike with the use of the traditional approach.

In that case, cost will be added to the organization due to the fact that they have to incorporate their human resource management process as well as human resource development to the strength development. Meaning, organizations must focus on the different areas of expertise in the organization, which will mainly focus on selection, hiring and retaining process of HRM. In addition, the company must also focus on the different activities and programs that will target the designated strengths, making all the process personalized based on the strengths.

In terms of the performance of the individual, there is a great possibility that the individual will no longer be developed in different senses. This is due to the fact that the strength-based approach focuses only on the strengths of the individual and not on their weaknesses. It is important to consider that focusing on the weaknesses of the individual can help to improve the abilities and skills of individual, because they will be able to acquire new abilities. Thus, it will result to growth.
