How foolish is times group ??

How dumb is the media ??

Instead of focusing on major issues, uncovering eyeopening news, the media is focusing on stupid things like a small restaurant in the mumbai who tried to encash on Hitlers name.

I mean COMEON ... prince, hitler, mahim sweet water... If it had not been the media.. no one would have known about that event .. there wouldnt have been a go-hum about this incident.

Focus on politics, indias economy, instead of why malika sherawat kissed in this movie so and so number of times or why so and so singer has 2 wives .

Where is the true journalism anyways ?

Newspapers and news channels have a profound effect on our lives and the way we see the world.

Why cant the journalists and the media focus on issues like " Sun TV showing half naked dance bedroom scenes " and counter argue with the government about the BAN on english channels.

Sometimes I wonder if this is the worlds largest democracy ??

Yes i know that the media is focussing at petty issues like Hitler cafe or the Mahim creek incident.
I would have prefered if it was about the issues like the Quota Bill which has a creamy layer coverage or the moral policing we are subjected to in the name of the blanket ban on A rated subject.
But i guess now with the 24x7 news channels coming up they do not have so much news to cover all day long.So they sensationalise such petty news.
And I also feel that somehow they have a audience for such news otherwise how can one explain the cropping up of a new news channel every month.

TIMES is the worst media company in India. It caters only to the Page 3 socialites and 'celebrities' . Kartik..it is not right for us to expect anything better frm them.

Regd media as a whole, 24/7 news channels is one of the reasons for such mundane issues taking centrestage. Because they dont have any other news, they will just crap in the name of news like Mahim creek controversy, Prince's rescue act, some professor in love with someone else etc...

In India, where every govt institution is inflicted in corruption, we have only the judiciary and the media to look up to. But the media is forgetting its responsiblity of providing news to the masses. Instead it is more concerned abt their TRP ratings and circulation numbers of their newspapers.

i guess the times people are doing a gr8 job......just imagine that they had functioned the Utopian way..then there would be no need for the a discussion on this topic...and it is only because of these agencies that we feel the helplees of various other macro variables......

but it is rightly said "there is darkness below the lamp...."

role of media in india needa revision...media in india is highlighting some of the trifling facts with some bombastic words and pompous headlines. The question of why and what is still missing...The role of media can b critical in the democratic country like ours where media can enlighten the people.....yesterdays comment by Vasundhra Raje on the death of 5 illfated people was appalling/disgusting..How can such irresponsible person lead a state...
media has capability to revive the strenght of democracy anywhere if used in meaningful manner..They should shift there intrest from bollywood type frivilous topics to countries need and reform.

i was also nt knowin abt the place ... until i saw it on T.v , its just 20mins from my place...

i agree with you....
Media now a days is not playing an important role.

I mean COMEON ... prince, hitler, mahim sweet water... If it had not been the media.. no one would have known about that event .. there wouldnt have been a go-hum about this incident.

yes for sure....because the Media knows that Indians are more interested in ENTERTAINMENT than the real DEVELOPMENT..

This one is a clear case of too less of news being chased by too great number of channels - so they're reverting to non-news like these. Media is just trying to fetch another scoop - another sensational issue - or an issue which could be sensationalized - anything which no other channel/paper can think off - no matter whether it makes any sense or not!

Holocaust awareness in India is limited and Hitler is regarded by many Indians as just another historical figure. The swastika, controversial in parts of the world due to usage by the Third Reich, is also an ancient Hindu holy symbol widely displayed to bring luck.

The Hitler-themed restaurant caused an uproar in the Jewish community in Mumbai and by citizens in the city. Although the store's owner, Punit Sablok, argued that his establishment was not promoting Hitler, Jonathan Solomon, chairman of the Indian Jewish Federation, was among the infuriated. According to Solomon, the new establishment "[signified] a severe lack of awareness of the agony of millions of Jews caused by one man," and he promised to work hard "to stop this deification of Hitler." According to the Associated Press, there are just 5,500 Jews in India, and all but 1,000 live in Mumbai. [1]. Sablok's refusal to change the theme earned the restaurant notoriety across the world as letters from Israel and Germany with the outpouring of strongly worded letters in the city's dailies. The Israeli Embassy too dashed a strongly worded letter to the owners.

Finally, on August 24, after less than a week of international outcry and a meeting with local Jewish leaders, Punit Sablok agreed to remove Hitler's name and the Nazi swastika from billboards and the restaurant's menu. "I chose the name innocently. I didn't expect that it would snowball into a major controversy", Sablok said. At that point he said he was unsure of the name to be chosen, but sure of one thing: "no more dictators". The Indian Jewish Federation reacted positively, saying it was relieved. "The incident exposes the lack of understanding of the present generation about the atrocities of the past and the need to educate them about crimes against humanity," Solomon said.[1]

On August 30, the restaurant was renamed the Cross Café. "We hope the new name will be a trouble-free one. We have deleted Hitler's name and the swastika symbol will be replaced with multi-coloured rings," Punit Sablok said. Two other options, Fort Knox and Exotic Goblet, were considered by the owners before they decided on the new name, Sabhlok added.[2] Puneet Sablok said the Nazi swastikas that adorned signs advertising the eatery and its menus would be removed
