Hearsay Evidence-
It is information that has been heard from someone. It often becomes the basis of investigative stories in the media. However hearsay evidence is not admissible in court.
It is for the same reason that press clippings are not used as evidence in court. A court of law requires facts from original documents or from witnesses, and not from rumours. However, the persons quoted in an article or the journalist who has written the article can be produced as a witness if they have concrete facts to offer. For e.g. Sharad Pawar Mid-day story.
