HALLMARK TIMELINE

1891 Hallmark founder Joyce Clyde Hall was born August 29, 1891

“Hall Brothers" is formed in 1911 when the company moves to Kansas city
*
1912 The Halls added greeting cards as popularity of postcards began to decline.*
*
1916 The company opens a retail store at 113 East 11th Street in Kansas City, Mo.
*
1925 The word "Hallmark" appears on products for the first time, but Hall Brothers still appears on most cards.*

1928 .* "Hallmark" begins appearing on the back of every greeting card, and the company's first ad appears in Ladies Home Journal.

1931 A handshake agreement makes W.E. Coutts Co. of Canada an affiliate of Hall Brothers, its first international venture.* The first color card, designed by Ethelwyn Hill, is printed

1932 Hallmark licenses the rights to use Walt Disney characters.* It was the first licensing venture for both companies

1935 The company's patented "Eye-Vision" display, which helps shoppers select cards more easily, becomes an industry first
