main emphasis of both student & teacher is on how to get maximum marks in Exam; not getting the real learning of the subject.
I so agree with this.
I've been struggling with the examination thing for long. You apply, you understand things better. The problem with the written examination is that it is just reproduction of things you study a few days before the actual exam (In most cases it is overnight).
Although the theory part is necessary, the application part is more important.
For example, we had a guest teacher for LEB (Legal Environment of Business). The teacher was so brilliant, he taught us the basic principles of law, and how or what is the basis for its existence. Then in tests and exams, he gave us small cases and we had to apply the concept of the laws to give a verdict on cases. This gave us good analyzing power, and converted an otherwise boring subject into something analytical and fun at the same time.
But what most teachers do is, because they are lazy, and do not feel like going through all this, they pick up the last 5 year papers or go through text books to find theoretical questions. Student with the highest ability to reproduce the stuff gets greatest marks. AND THAT IS THE SOLE PURPOSE OF THEIR STUDIES!
God this needs to be reformed in my opinion!!
