Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT) is an S&P 500 company in the free and open source software sector, and a major Linux distribution vendor. Founded in 1993, Red Hat has its corporate headquarters in Raleigh, North Carolina with satellite offices worldwide.

Red Hat has become associated to a large extent with its enterprise operating system Red Hat Enterprise Linux and with the acquisition of open-source enterprise middleware vendor JBoss. Red Hat provides operating-system platforms along with middleware, applications, and management products, as well as support, training, and consulting services.

Red Hat creates, maintains, and contributes to many free software projects and has also acquired several proprietary software packages and released their source code under mostly GNU GPL while holding copyright under single commercial entity and selling looser licenses. As of February 2009, Red Hat was the largest corporate contributor to the Linux kernel.

1. Compliance with Laws & Regulations
Red Hat, Inc. suppliers shall comply with all laws, regulations and policies of the countries, states and localities in which they operate which are applicable to them and shall require their own suppliers to do the same. This includes, but is not limited to, Small Business rules and regulations, Affirmative Action and Equal Employment Opportunity rules and regulations, general labor and employment rules and regulations, and the rules regarding suspension and debarment of companies from doing business with the United States Government.

2. Gifts and Gratuities
No supplier or its representatives or employees shall offer to any Red Hat employee a kickback, favor, gratuity, gift, entertainment or anything of value to obtain favorable treatment from Red Hat. Red Hat employees and their immediate family are similarly prohibited from soliciting such items. As long as the gift is not intended to obtain favorable treatment for the supplier and does not create the appearance of a bribe, kickback, payoff or irregular type of payment, Red Hat employees are not prohibited from accepting gifts or entertainment if: (a) it does not exceed a value of more than $100, (b) public disclosure would not embarrass Red Hat, Inc., (c) acceptance is consistent with Red Hat, Inc's business practices and policies, and (d) it does not violate any applicable law. Red Hat, Inc. employees are prohibited from engaging in insider trading.

3. Conflicts of Interest
No supplier shall enter into a financial or any other relationship with a Red Hat, Inc. employee that creates a conflict of interest for Red Hat, Inc. Suppliers and/or their representatives shall not deal directly with any Red Hat employee whose spouse, domestic partner, other family member or relative holds a significant financial interest in the Supplier. All such conflicts must be disclosed, corrected or approved by Red Hat management.

4. Trade Practices
Suppliers shall not engage in collusive bidding, price fixing, price discrimination, or other unfair trade practices in violation of federal or state antitrust laws. Suppliers shall comply with all applicable trade control and export control laws, and should not directly or indirectly engage in or support any terrorist activity.

5. Labor Practices
Suppliers are expected to adopt fair labor practices and treat their workers in accordance with local laws and regulations in all of their operations worldwide, including but not limited to:

Ensuring no forced, bonded or involuntary labor and ensuring that its overall terms of employment are voluntary.
Compliance with local minimum working age laws and requirements, and not employing child labor.
Providing wages and benefits that meet or exceed applicable legal requirements.
Not requiring workers to work more than the maximum hours of daily labor set by local, applicable laws.
Prohibiting physical abuse, harassment or the threat of either.
Prohibiting legal discrimination in employment practices based on race, color, religion, gender, age, physical disability, national origin, sexual orientation, union membership or political affiliation.
Respecting the rights of workers to organize in labor unions in accordance with local labor laws and established practices.
Provide a safe and healthy working environment for their workers in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
6. Compliance with Red Hat Contracts
Red Hat Suppliers will supply products and services that conform in all respects with the requirements of their contract with Red Hat, including in particular, all applicable quality requirements.


Despite the worst recession in decades, Linux giant Red Hat added 600 employees to its rolls during the 12 months that ended Feb. 28, and the Raleigh company anticipates more hiring going forward, according to a filing Wednesday with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Red Hat said that its total number of employees rose from 2,200 as of Feb. 28, 2008, to 2,800 a year later.
The disclosure was made in the company’s annual 10K filing with the SEC.
Also in the filing, Red Hat (NYSE: RHT) said that its employee base “is expected to generally increase in the foreseeable future.”
The company provides software and support for the open-source Linux operating system, which competes with Microsoft’s Windows operating system.

401(k) Retirement Savings Plan
Saving money for retirement has never been this easy. Fidelity Investments and Red Hat have teamed together to offer a great 401k plan. All associates are eligible to enroll in the plan on the first of the month following their date of hire, if they are at least 21 years of age. Associates may contribute (pre-tax) 1% - 60% of earnings. Red Hat will match $.50 for every $1.00 contributed to the first 6% of contributions that associates make. Associates are eligible to roll over a distribution from a previous employer's Qualified Plan upon hire. Associates are 100% vested immediately on the match.

Disability Income Plan
Full-time associates are offered short and long term disability on the first day of employment. Although we hope you never need it, the plan offers associates the opportunity to receive short and long term salary replacement should they become temporarily or permanently disabled.

Flexible Spending Accounts for Healthcare and Dependent Care
Full-time associates are eligible to participate on the first day of employment. You can contribute up to $5,000.00 pre-tax to a healthcare or dependent care account.

Paid Time Off and Holidays
Begin your new job with 16 paid days off a year, 9 paid Holidays, and 3 Floating Holidays. Paid time off increases with length of service.

Tuition Reimbursement Program
Take a class or continue your education. Full-time associates are eligible to apply for tuition reimbursement. Courses must be job related and reimbursement is based on grade received.

Staff Member Referral
Once employed, receive a $2,000.00 bonus for referring others to work at Red Hat. Associates provide resumes to our recruiters and are eligible to receive a bonus once the referred candidate is hired and begins work.
