With all the hustle and bustle the news of Maharashtra’s new CM released fulfilling expectations of many . After resignation of Mr. Ashok Chavan, it time for our new king to take on the throne. The Congress Legislature Party has authorized Mrs. Gandhi to name its new leader Mr. Chavan was in the race for the CM along with Sushil Kumar Shinde and Vikhe Patil as soon as Ashok Chavan offer of resignation was accepted. Chavan has won in three Lok Sabha elections and and has been a central minister and the Minister of State in Prime Minister’s office prior to his election by the CLP as the new CM. Sixty four year old Chavan did his B.E.(Hons) from prestigious Birla Institute of Technology and Science in Pilani, Rajasthan, and his MS from University of California, Berkeley, (USA). In 1999, former Congress leader Shrinavas Patil -- who had defected to the then newly formed Nationalist Congress Party of Sharad Pawar defeated Chavan. Since then Chavan has been elected to the Rajya Sabha. If other politicians take a cue from new chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, the metropolis could soon be free of the countless political banners and posters that are an eyesore in public areas. Chavan started his political career in 1991, and won the family seat of Karad thrice, in '91, '96 and '98 and lost it in 1999
He was the Minister of State for the ministries of Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and in charge of Prime Minister's Office. Earlier he was also the Minister of State in charge of the Department Of Atomic Energy.
