Some time ago when the US Secreatry of State Hillary Clinton was in India she was pretty much impressed with the eductaion system in India of which many have been working in the US and the UK as doctors, engineers, scientists etc.

Just recently i came across an article by Deloitte that huge talent deficit may hit corporate India.. and it stated that though lot many graduates will be produced but will lack skills to operate in a corporate environment. It stated the need for building skill sets to retain the current managers.

What do you think Mpites....do we need an overall change in the education system which helps in creating a workforce rather than just a book knowledge??

Rightly stated Rohan...there are various survey remarking this issue. We boast around about Indian education to be better then other developing countries but how many of our graduates or post graduates for tht matter are equipped with the working skills....remains a question.

there has always been lack of vocational training..and the Indian govt has been alloting considerable funds in its every Annual Budget...but how much of this funds is reaching and deployed into activities....is another question again.

Thirdly...there is no management of the existing Talent pool...a large proportion of these talents u'll find are either doing a right job at a wrong place...and if they at right place they dont have the required skill to executive their tasks

You are 100% right rohan
our education system is not on right track i think that we are more theoretical in our approach due to this we are educating people but without any practical knowledge its a cause of concern
In graduation level specially in courses like B.B.A we just do our theoretical courses but without any practical knowledge of market its becoming trend and its also the main reason for educated unemployment because we educate the people but without proper knowledge of practical aspects our education is useless at least in present world.

SO I THINK WE MUST WORK ON EDUCATION SYSTEM AND MAKE IT MORE PRACTICAL FROM SCHOOL LEVEL ONLY

Going by the statement we come across everyday from HR honchos of big houses, our
education system is in dire straits and need a big overhaul, but then, as Rohan has pointed out about Hilllary, who thinks it is hot, it does not!

Problem is that we tend to generalise things - either it does or doesn't, but, I
believe, that this too follows a normalised bell-curve - there's a little part of it which has been doing excelllent - producing leaders, a big chunk just medicore - needs some real training and others are way behind - again a little chunk of the normalized curve.

Yes, the problem exists - that a lot of kids don't get enrolled into school, then some of school going ones drop out or don’t' have basic things - means sometimes even the teachers are away doing politics/census/election duty etc.

Then we do enforce learning by rote, ignore thinking minds - in fact sometimes even punish the inquisitive ones, push them to throw out the mugged-up, specific-to-examiner answers. Force kids to go to highest of higher education- even if means getting up through their parents shoulders - or money, as the case may be.

Those HR-chiefs too tend to choose only the academic toppers for their organization. But then with a country with large populations this doe seem to be the easiest idea – hire the topper as all the guys could not be evaluated - logistic issues!

I think present education system has done a lot of good - instead of finding new systems we may try to fix this one - achieve at-least-primary-education for all the kids and open more avenues (higher education institutes of national prominence – IIT/NIT or whatever it needs)to utilize still untapped talent - instead of forcing teenagers to achieve more 9's in their percentages while learning nothing out of it.

See friend we must do following things

I am not a very good expert but i think we can improve education system by doing following things -:
1) Make vocational education compulsory after 10th
2) We must focus on Bachelor degree course students and specially on their practical knowledge.
3) Give Choice of choosing specialisation from 9th standard only
4) Engage students on more and more project works and researches in order to enrich their knowledge

yes i agree with the same!

Infact more focus shd be on the following points....

1) Bachelor degree course students and specially on their practical knowledge.

2) Give Choice of choosing specialisation from 9th standard only

3) More field related projects

4) Get away with so many board exams........

HI..
Education system in India really bad.
It basically starts from the school level itself...
there are hardly any practical knowledge given to students..
mugging up is the only way to pass.
I am in an engineering college and I see students having nil info about the actual concepts ..
they only know the answers and how to get marks..
this is probably the reason for lack of innovations among Indian people and we depend upon other countries for our technical stuff and we lose money in the process which in turn harms a developing country like us...

I think in place of criticizing education system of India we must discuss how we and government can improve education system. Its easy to criticize education system of India but its also not an easy task to change and improve the education system for more than 1 billion population of India. It is a task which will take some time
So we all must discuss the measures and ideas which can be helpful in improving education system in India.

hiiii...my views on indian education is that it is very well placed with its curriculum and study structure..
but quality education dont reach the grassroot levels...we still dont have good schools ,,,colleges in the interior parts of the country....

the other thing is the lack of infrastructure that a educational institute has to provide a all round development of children...
and also the competition...there have been many cases whereby people having good practical knowledge dont make it to good institutes just because they have bad academics..

we need more schools and colleges with good infrastrucure that can cater this demand....

educatin system in india create robots . they just are tried for thier memory . once a person won a quiz with all accurate answers , a industralist was asked this question what salary would he like to offer this person he said he wouldnt like to employ him as he was practically zero,

education till senior secondary is good.... its the higher education that needs to be worked upon....
