-Documentary evidence
Documentary evidence is any evidence produced in court in form of a document. Though it is often interpreted as evidence on paper, it includes any media on which information can be preserved. Photographs, videos, etc are also forms of documentary evidence. Original documents (on paper) like birth certificates or an invoice are called primary evidence. Handwritten documents need be checked by hand writing experts to be considered.

If primary evidence cannot be produced for any reason, secondary evidence i.e. a copy duly attested by an officer must be produced. However, the court must be furnished with reasons as to why primary evidence couldn’t be produced. Only if the court is satisfied with the explanation can the secondary evidence be produced.
