do you think firing employees in IT is fair ?

nope this is not fair.. due to financial crisis. everyone s trying to safe guard and resulted in layoff's no hike in salary... salary cut off by 10-15 %..

on a more phylosophical note its life and everybody has their own challeges and struggles,,,whether its the IT organisations or the employees,,,n in this dog race,,a gain of one will obviously adversely affect the other

IT and technology industry give a large share in Indian GDP, which is about 60% of the total. When the globlization is now significatly seen on indian economy we can assume the eefect of global slowdown on indian economy as well. Which will result in low production of services and lower demand. In ths aspect the IT companies in india will have the lower demand of services as well. And indeed higher expenses and lower income sources will bind companies to cut off in salaries or job cuts. So they have solid reasons when they r firing their employees, I support their cause but the best solution could have been little salary cut cuz job is very critical aspect in a populated densed country like india.

this is not fair to firing employees in IT sector , because they are working hard with the company from so many years, if the company is really facing problems then they have to inform employees 3 months before, so they can look into that and search for another job.

Hello friends!!
My two cents on this issue, first a question-
could you buy 50 Rs coffee when you have
only 20 Rs in your pocket?

Definitely no, so when individuals could be incapable
so are the IT companies given the situation there is
dried cash inflow into company books.

Second thing whom to blame the companies who hired people
at exorbitant salaries and now don't have revenues to pay
them or the people who are just looking to hop companies
after companies anticipation higher pay?

final thing the context that we are debating about. On moral
grounds firing is not correct as we do not have the social
security system as existing in USA, which guarantees the health
care, unemployment cover etc taken care by government.

Better alternative could be rational salary adjustments as
on of the friends suggested in previous posts as salary cut or
extended hours as implemented in Infosys and Wipro.

Further opinions are invited.

Thanks,
nio

t is not fair as far as employee relation is concerned. but if the company will not be able to pay the employees for their work, will it be fair, no it will not be. so, instead of doing unfair later, its better that they told them initially so that the employees can look for a new job

NO FIRING OF EMPLOYEES IS NOT FAIR AS WHEN A COMPANY HIRES A CANDIDATE IT IS THE COMPANY'S RESPONSIBILITY.ALTHOUGH THE COUNTRIES ARE PRESENTLY INTO RECESSION BUT STILL ATLEAST THE COMPANIES HAVE TO PROVIDE OUTPLACEMENT TO THE LAID OFFF EMPLOYEES.

d comapnies may b removing employees coz they hav n other option left... it is better than keeping d employees wit no salary

I'm wondering what is wrong with lay-offs. Does it have to be to the extreme of firing the employee's?
As business people we are nothing without our business, so wouldn't that be a better business decision?

Hi all,

Firing an employee/employees is no good for the employee as well as for the organisation. It brings bad name for the company, but what if, if the employee who has been shown a pink slip was not worth working with the company. We all must admit that in every organsation we will find people who do not want to work yet earn laurels for them. So, firing these employees who are termed as non-performers would not be unjustified, because by doing this we are showing that people who have not been fired are (1). performers, (2) needed by the organisation.

yes........if you consider the fact that IT companies hire in huge no. in anticipation of projects that they might get in future........so if project does not come.........employee is fired........that makes complete business sence

with collapse of lehman bros workforce of IT sector are in trouble.

The IT sector has to strive and believe in their employees, laying off employees who are assets of the organization is not the solution but careful reorganization of the IT sector has to be done to help it to grow.
