Its really fantastic having Ganesha in our homes, societies and everywhere. Ganesh Chaturthi, the festival of millions of people in India was started by Lokmanya Tilak years back.

But off late there have been a real craze among people to buy Ganesh idols and i guess 7 out of 10 homes welcome Ganesha. But the point to note is the amount of pollution creation during immersion of these idols. And to top it we have water shortage. Also during the immersion stage people play all kinds of songs with loud sounds, drums instead why not atleast play some devotional songs while immersion. But no, people want to dance to the tunes of bollywood movies. And moreover there are lots of traffic jams during these days where creates a lot of problem for masses

I seriously feel most of the people just buy Ganesha idols for just show-off the decorations and all ofcourse due respect to all their feelings towards the lord....but it just seems commercialization.

So kindly discuss some points which can be friendly in all ways..environmrnt, devotionally and in all sense.

Hi Rohan.... I am completely in favour of ur thoughts... I have personally experienced this when i was there in Pune, Maharashtra. Yaar u won't believe guyz, the people r just mad abt it & they don' even care wat problems the other people r facing just 'coz of their commercialization of Ganesh Chaturthi. I am not saying tht people shouldn't enjoy it but they should also take care of public.

Well thats what, there is no provision by the government in all respects whether be it traffic chaos, the loud drums and moreover no importance to eco friendly idols which is the need of the hour.

This Disney-fication of a festival - like many other festivals, was never the aim of Tilak who transformed this festival to, as Wikipedia says, an effective demonstration of festival procession. In fact the loud music, all the decorations..sometimes complete with the movie stars too, do make the actual purpose of a festival meaningless.

ganesha chaturthi as already mentioned was the brain child of lokmanya tilak a great thinker. he started this to unite the hindu community. this still continues to do the work when people come out and socialise,

the govt. cannot actually do anything in the issue... its religious... but people should take care of not polluting the environment.... if this is all to show-off... maybe people would like to show that they are "green" some day.....
