Workplace realities
Work is god!
The above is something that we have read and heard many times. These quotations and similar ones used to be on board at offices, but today we hardly see such things. Does that mean the thought is washed away from our minds? At work place there are no such quotes and no such mutual feeling left for now; even if it is at rare cases.
The world plays its role in reality but we human beings like to be in our dream world which is not real. Things are not as constant as they were in the past; the only thing constant today is change along with uncertainty.
Now a days the scenario of someone stealing your chair and overtaking you at your workplace is not a new thing to be discussed its an everyday affair.
You have to go above and beyond the normal in order to stand out. While this is not a new concept, it is more important than ever to abide by it. Therefore, think about ways that you can add value to your current role. And remember that added value does not mean putting in more hours or even doing more work.
Managing your morale at work is your responsibility and not the management; hence plan small things that can help you maintain your morale. You can either respond in a positive or negative manner, and both outcomes are entirely in your control. Always remember that it's not management's job to deal with individual morale issues.
There will be a continued drive for efficiency and streamlining processes using technology. The level of automation these days is absolutely amazing. The key is to automate the good processes.
Whatever might be the situation at workplace, if at chaos; you are self responsible to manage your presence of mind and actions/decision.
You need to have an idea of everything that goes around you in the office, know your competitors. To keep abreast of all the updates you need to keep yourself updated with all the necessary qualities you require to compete with your competitors, for this you should know the details like advancement and development in the industry you are related to.
Everyone who has ever held a job knows that workplaces are social communities. They reflect the breadth, depth, intellect, emotions, and expertise of the people who inhabit them. And people inhabit them for longer hours due to demands for productivity.
Now a days, people hardly matter and think of others. Most people have an image in their minds of the ideal work environment, tailored to meet their financial, intellectual and social needs, but a majority of people probably don't leave their homes every day expecting to work in that fantasy realm. Yet recent survey results suggest that young IT workers might not be able to distinguish reality from fantasy when they enter the workplace.
The networked, creative economy requires independent and interdependent workers with the following traits that cannot be commoditized:
Initiative
Creativity
Passion
Today the list of qualities and skills required by a candidate is lengthy and everything got very much practical and formal in this corporate world.
This point reminds me of the discussion I had with my circle of friends, wherein we were discussing about the existence of heart in the corporate world. People in the corporate world possess no personal feelings towards each other and everything and everybody is a sweet pie in front of you and at your back they are as bitter as a bitter gourd, strange comparison but a really apt one. I believe even you might have experienced this situation someday or the other at least once in your life career or may be more than once. The truth is bitter but the facts and the true situation needs to be accepted as we accept all good and bad qualities of self as part of self.
