Sudhir Vasudeva, director, offshore at state-run exploration and production company Oil and Natural Gas Corp. Ltd (ONGC) was selected by Public Enterprise Selection Board (PESB) on Tuesday to head the company when RS Sharma, the current chairman and managing director retires on 31 January next year.

The selection criteria went on like this:
ONGC director (offshore) Sudhir Vasudeva as the frontrunner to head the state-run company. Pawan Hans chairman R K Tyagi is the ministry’s second choice. However, the PESB has found Rabi Narayan Bastia — the man credited for discovering India’s biggest gas field, Dhirubhai 1 — as the most suitable candidate.
