JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: SENIOR BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE SPECIALIST


Department/Location: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY, SKOKIE
Reports directly to: I.T. PROJECT MANAGER


BASIC PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Under the direction of I.T. management, in support of Business Intelligence projects, is responsible for:
dashboard and reporting design, development, and implementation, internal and external portal security, and
reporting applications. Works with designated system business sponsors and I.T. project and development staff
to ensure applications and reports meet the business needs in an efficient manner. Mentors business sponsors,
other developers, and end users in use of the BI software as well as current trends in Business Intelligence
reporting.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Design, develop, implement, maintain, and document both desktop and web-based Business Intelligence
solutions using a variety of software packages and tools (WebFocus, SQL Reporting Services, Access,
Excel, etc.).
2. Design, develop, deliver, document, and support complex Business Intelligence dashboards,
applications, data models, and reports to meet and exceed business requirements.
3. Design, develop, deliver, document, and support OLAP reporting.
4. Design, develop, deliver, and document master files and reporting objects for WebFocus InfoAssist
reporting.
5. Develop, document, and manage corporate Business Intelligence Dashboard content strategy for internal
sites as well as external portals for use by business partners.
6. Develop, manage, document, and administer corporate role-based Business Intelligence security
authorization strategy for internal sites and external portals to conform to corporate security policy.
7. Develop, document, and manage Change Control environment and procedures for Business Intelligence
solution including IT migrations as well as user-developed shared reports.
8. Develop, document, and monitor scheduling and usage of Report Repository functionality.
9. Develop, document, and monitor archive process for Report Repository data following corporate data
retention policies.
10. Develop backup requirements for all Business Intelligence web and reporting servers and audit the
process regularly to ensure complete recoverability.
11. Assist in testing and troubleshooting Business Intelligence solutions.
12. Provide production application support, resolve issues, and identify process improvements.
13. Provide end user support.
14. Assist business sponsors in performing user training.
15. Assist users in understanding how to use reporting and query tools effectively.
16. Keep current with new functionality offered in upcoming releases of Business Intelligence and reporting
software. Test new releases as they become available. Schedule and perform upgrades.
17. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
Four year Business or Computer Science college degree preferred or combination of education and related work
experience conferring equivalent skills. MBA a plus. Additional training or courses in systems analysis and design,
business intelligence and end user reporting, analysis, and query tools.

Design Skills:
Expert level skills in data analysis, and advanced Business Intelligence application and dashboard design, development,
and implementation. Expert level skills in report and query design and implementation.

Technical skills:
Expert level skills in Business Intelligence application and dashboard development and implementation using current
version of WebFocus, as well as more advanced technical syntax using Focus language in WebFocus text editor view.
Expert level skills in Adobe Flex and its usage in WebFocus. Expert level skills in utilizing SQL Server 2008 and
DB2/400 query syntax. Professional level skills in end user productivity software such as Access and Excel. Experience
with other web technical software and tools (AJAX, PHP, Java Script, Web Services, etc.) a plus. Strong analytical,
troubleshooting and problem resolution skills.

Previous experience:
Several years (5+) experience in WebFocus business intelligence systems analysis, design, development, documentation,
and implementation in a business environment including: grid style and formatted reports output to Active Report, PDF,
Excel and HTML, guided ad-hoc applications with chained parameters, multiple drill paths, Managed Reporting
Environment, complex reports and dashboards using HTML and Flex, personal dashboards, WebFocus master file
development utilizing cluster joins, reports with SQL write-back, Report Caster, InfoAssist, cascading style sheets, Web
Service data sources, single sign-on implementation using Active Directory, reporting object development, Change
Management, and system testing. Experience in fresh foods and/or consumer packaged goods industries a plus.
