Advertisements do more harm than good ??? Debate !!!

i feel that advertise is also a common toll to stay in the business, it's not harmful, it's a technique to reach to the customer. one may ugue about the huge expenditure associated with that and companies pass on the same to the customer, but how a customer can know about the product? he will be deprived of the better product because of lack of advertisement.
regarding cost factor we all know that sale speed has a direct relationship with advertisement so the cost. if we remove the advertisement it will slowdown the speed os sales so the cost will increase in terms of opportunity cost of the fund block, cost of storage(like ice cream, fish etc.) and probablity of watage due to expiry (think about perishable goods).
so in my opinoion you must do advertise wisely to sell your product

Just like media which is a double edged sword, Advertisements done through media also are like that. If conveyed in a better manner, they do real good and attract a lot of buyers. Just like every other mode of communication, there is both a positive as well as negative side to advertising

Ofcourse they are must for people to know about their product. But whats most important is how they convey dis message to the customers. These days its doing more harm rather than good just for d sake of selling.

People like to see creative ads like vodafone rather than ads which attract people just for boosting their sale.
People were much happy 30yrs earlier. But now ads have moved more onto selling and attracting people rather than thinking about what they are showing in ads or what negative wil it have on society overall.

Dear all,
Not only as a student of management education but also as aresponsible citizen I am not in favour of the debate's topic that advertisements do more harm than gud. What would u say about Pulse polio, child labour and female infanticide and family planning ads done by celebrity, and when the same person does a commercial ad people start making hue and cry over it. Why our society wants to be so protected, let it open and leave it on individuals to decide that they want to buy a particular product or not.

Well in my opinion advertising is always good. The main advantage of this technique of expression is that it help the newbies to know the contemporary things, methods, technology etc available in the market.

Wel Yes...It changes the mind set of people which is not less than harmful....It creates such kind of demand which may not be necessary at some places even....

advertisements no necessary and seemingly harmless tools somehow unconciosly penetrates the minds of people when when not watched . especially the youngs minds though smart may religiosly believe in it. these also change the behaviour pattern of the society if not handled properly. girls as young as 7-8 yrs are seen using makeups . this industry should handle themselves maturly and stop mislaeding.

No-one is forced to put advertising on their property - for many companies it is an important part of their income. Football teams would have much less money if they were not sponsored. And no-one is forced to look at advertising - you can turn the TV off between shows, or just flick past adverts in newspapers. If you don't want to see the adverts, then just ignore them.

I totally disagree with you perception. However, ads do have some flaws which needed to be repaired but, it generates ginormous amount of business and uplift the economy of India. All the news channel and newspaper even the radio and social media, each and every medium of promoting messages of news earn from advertising. Advertising has been the source of providing information and elucidating the thoughts and ideas of consumer.
