Recession advertising loves Women

They say its a man's world and current trends in advertising really prove it wrong.

How many ads that we see cater to men? The only one's I could recollect of are fair and lovely and the like that try to get men in touch with their feminine or should I say, metrosexual side.

Except for the bikes and cars, are there any ads that cater to men?

From jewelery, home appliances, food and beverages, cosmetics, clothing and accessories and even mobile sim cards, most advertising appeals to the women audiences..

Is it that women are recession proof ? or is it a general trend ?:SugarwareZ-253:
 
I think it is a general trend...most of the buying decisions of home appliances,kitchen ware,,furniture are taken by the women in the house...
the men only take part in the big budget buys like cars,,, bikes,,etc..

so i guess the advertisers are just trying to lure their target audiences...
 
I really would like to know the etcetera. Which products are marketed at men and which ones at women?

Even the family centric ones appeal to the women more than the men.

there is no saying like Its Man's world...hence you got it wrong( kidding )

Yes almost every advertisment has women in focus, be it a product for men..still the central theme of the ad will keep revolving around a female.

Advertisers are more than willing to manipulate and exploit our anxieties regarding our identities to sell products.

Advertisers seem to be oblivious of the fact that customer is no more the “king” because now customer is a “queen”.

We all know that the purchase decisions in most of the family units are taken by the female members of the household.

They are the ones who manage the inflow and the outflow of financial resources in the family. It has to be kept in mind by the endorsement designers that advertisements have to be created in order to persuade and please women instead of men because ultimately the former are the ones who take the purchase decision.

But sadly only those females are seen as virtuous homemakers who care about their husband’s shirts, trousers, cholesterols and take great pleasure in running after kids, play excellent hosts, washing clothes in the endorsed washing machine and detergent or storing great provisions in the “favourite” refrigerator....wat say??
 
In case of recession doing around, the advertising companies have acted very smartly by showcasing ads revolving in and around women. The reason behind this which i feel is men would not like to spend much money on buying new things during this time, so why not target the women audiences where there are chances that thw women might influcence men to purchase the product...

and as aptly said by Kaplana....the customer is queen not king.

Even the Kotak Mahindra Bank ad involves a woman taking care of the finances....

I have been watching advertisement and with more concentration after i joined BBA in marketing specialization
Well recession has nothing to do anything with advertising and marketing strategies. I think that a major reason behind the advertising with women is that most of the buying decisions are either taken by women, are taken with influence of women, and involve women directly or indirectly. So thats the major reason why companies use women in their advertisements in order to make advertisement more familiar and glamorous.
Why would a person especially guys and man like to see a man doing advertisement. its common that i and you and all of us get motivated and influenced by opposite sex so that can also be the reason behind this.

Thats true Gurpreet... women endorsing.... products sees great impetus in the sense the expected reponse...while the above mention facts are the major reasons as to why are most of the product ads women oriented.
 
Women too are not recession proof, but the part they play in decision making or decision influencing ensures them the correct target when budgets are not so much liberal.

Take aurself as an owner of the company manufacturing bikes and all
you will include a women in add in some place because its a major factor for sales
even we see the advertisement of a bike i dnt remember name right now
in which pujari ji takes a ride of a bike and in the end when a girl make entry pujari ji says
"AAti sundar" so i think that today women is a need of every ad specially in ad industry competition is getting more and more tuff and soon we will see healthy rivalries between ad models just like television and movie actresses.

Recession i dont think have any link with women oriented ad industry.
 
Women play an increasingly significant role in purchase decisions.

Advertisements that show wives worried over their husband's health or children’s eating disorder is quite common. A very popular oil campaign lined up a chain of ads where the wife was petrified by her husband’s eating habits. All Kellogg’s breakfast cereal ads primarily have women models.
Such ads locate the woman within dominant ideology as someone who bears the primary burden of responsibility of nurturing and caring for others.

While the picture of the caring mother is structurally maintained, at the same time it is being re-presented with, beneath the essential selflessness, hints of playfulness, good-humor and assertiveness.

Remember "the Maggi Noodles ad" in which the mom happily feeds her hungry kids instant noodles when they come home from play.
Also a famous "Whisper ad" commercial showed the mother as being supportive and comforting instead of upset over her daughter’s situation. Though there are umpteen ads that depict mothers as being solely responsible, maternal responsibilities have become unchained from their traditional narrative moorings.

Remember the "ad of surf excel" where the husband is upset about stain on his shirt and wonders whether it'll go or not. His young, smart wife replies "Daag...dhoonte reh jaoge".

Advertisements completely rule out the possibility of men being responsible towards household maintenance at all (ofcourse, there may be some exceptions). In the recent times there has been an obvious role reversal in a few well positioned advertisements. For example - "the ICICI prudential ad" where the wife says ‘Jeethe Raho” to her husband, blatantly breaks the cliched of only men being the financial watch dogs of a family.

There are loads and loads of examples which clearly show how the trend has moved onto women playing a significant role in advertisements.

So i 100 % agree to the fact as mentioned above by my friends - customer is no more the “king” because now customer is a “queen”.

I think we both r agreeing upon the same point....women remains the center of focus for the ads...n rightly mentioned competition is getting tougher..and one brand ambassadors will give another a run for thier money:)
 
I do agree wit everyone.. Every firm attaches the female factor wit their advertisements just 'coz the customers get attracted much easily towards the product 'coz of this

well it hadnt struck me before...but u made a wonderful point... today all advertisements are catered towards women...but i think that is because men are more money conscious during this time and also in other ways also...women influence the buying decisions of almost everything at home...
 
women some times holds a better convincing power tham men.marketing is somewhat a ethical way of convincing to the propective customers for the products and brands they wish to buy even for no use.
