About the Zicklin School of Business

The Zicklin School of Business is the largest collegiate school of business in the nation and the only CUNY unit that offers business programs accredited by the AACSB - Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The Zicklin School offers degree programs leading to the BBA, MBA, Executive MBA, MS, Executive MS in Finance, and the Baruch/Mt. Sinai MBA in Health Care Administration, which is accredited by the Accrediting Commission on Education for Health Care Administration (ACEHSA). Among its exciting new initiatives are the Zicklin Full-Time MBA program, which enrolls a select group of candidates whose credentials and average GMAT scores of 650 place them among the top students in the nation. Its combined, five-year undergraduate/MS degree program in accountancy meets the latest education requirements for the CPA exam. The Zicklin School houses the City University's PhD in business and offers a joint degree program leading to the JD/MBA degrees in conjunction with both Brooklyn Law School and The New York Law School.

In 1998, the Zicklin School of Business was named in appreciation for a generous endowment from alumnus and financier Lawrence Zicklin, class of 1957.

Full-Time Honors MBA Program
The Full-Time Honors MBA Program is a selective, cohort-based program featuring a collaborative learning environment emphasizing teamwork and leadership. Admission to the program is highly competitive. Applications are accepted for the fall semester only.

Flex-Time MBA Program
Flex-Time MBA students study at either a full- or part-time pace, switching back and forth as their work and study needs dictate. With courses offered primarily in the evening, this program is particularly well-suited for those who wish to remain employed while they earn their degree. Students in the Flex-Time Program may begin in the fall or spring semester.

Accelerated Part-Time MBA Program (APT)
The Accelerated Part-Time (APT) MBA Program is designed for professionals who want to complete the MBA in 28 months while working full-time. (Students majoring in the Accountancy CPA track will need an additional semester.) Additionally, students enjoy the benefits of a cohort-based core curriculum. Each fall and spring semester, students take two courses during the week and one course on Saturday. Additional course work in the summer and January terms facilitates completion of the program in 28 months. Applications are accepted for the fall semester only.

The Full-Time Honors MBA is a highly selective full-time, primarily daytime program designed to challenge you to reach your fullest potential both intellectually and professionally. The Program
This highly ranked Flex-Time MBA program prepares students for professional careers in a competitive business environment. A diverse student population and faculty with broad academic and professional backgrounds provide a rich learning experience both within and outside the classroom.

Students typically follow a prescribed sequence of courses and are together in cohort modules for their first four core courses. Each module consists of two "paired" courses that meet back-to-back twice a week. In this way, students have an efficient schedule and can get to know each other in two shared courses. Flex-Time students attending school full-time may complete the program in two years. Students attending part-time can complete the program in four years or less. Accountancy majors seeking CPA certification may require an additional semester of course work. All students can accelerate their studies by taking additional courses on a space available basis, if time and energy permit.

Most evening courses meet two nights a week, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. and from 7:35 p.m. to 8:50 p.m. (Some courses begin at 5:40 p.m.) Daytime sections may be available for selected courses.

The Program
To meet the special needs of accomplished professionals who want to complete an established, well-regarded MBA as quickly as possible, the Zicklin School has introduced the Accelerated Part-Time (APT) MBA program. Courses during the summer terms and January intersessions complete the special scheduling of the standard 20-course, 57-credit Zicklin MBA program in just 28 months. (Note: Due to the 150-credit hour program requirements, APT students are unable to major in Accountancy.)

Joint JD/MBA Degree Programs with Brooklyn Law School and New York Law School

The joint JD/MBA program allows students to pursue both law and business subjects more rigorously than either the MBA or the JD degrees alone would allow. This more thorough study of the connections between law and business enables joint degree students to make a special contribution to the law or business environment in which they will be working. Possible positions and fields that draw upon this unique combination of legal and business knowledge are: legal counsel; corporate secretary; liaison to outside counsel, accounting firms, and insurance companies; securities and liaison to financial institutions; general administrative assistant to CEO/CFO; shareholder relations; labor relations; real estate; business policy and general strategy - including risk analysis, legislative relations, lobbying, international relations and trade, community relations, advertising, and intellectual property aspects of e-commerce and the internet.

How is the Joint Program Structured?
Students pursue the joint MBA/JD program on a full-time or part-time basis. Student may receive up to nine transfer credits towards the 57-credit MBA degree for appropriate course work completed in the law school. Similarly, students may receive up to nine transfer credits towards the 86-credit JD degree for appropriate course work completed in the business school. Because of this shared course credit, full-time students can complete the joint JD/MBA program in approximately four years, including summers. Part-time students can complete the joint JD/MBA program in approximately five and one-half years, including summers. Certain preliminary courses may be required for MBA students who have not had equivalent preparation prior to enrollment at Baruch.

The JD and MBA degrees are conferred after degree requirements at both institutions have been satisfied. Students who elect to complete one degree before (or instead of) the other degree must complete the conventional requirements for the degree that is being sought.

Students begin their course work at either the business school or the law school, and will generally spend one year at one institution, the next year at the other institution, and divide their remaining time between the two institutions. Program coordinators at each school will assist students in meeting the special needs arising from the different dates of enrollment and registration in the respective institutions. Students must meet the separate academic, residency and financial requirements at each school.

What Courses Do I Take in the MBA Program?
The MBA degree program requires 57 credits: 33 credits of common core and breadth courses, 12 credits of advanced course work completed within the General MBA option or major area, and 12 credits of elective course work consisting of an international elective and three general electives. In general, students in the JD/MBA program transfer nine credits of law school course work towards their general electives. All law courses are completed at Brooklyn Law School or New York Law School.

How Do I Apply to the Joint Program?
Prospective students must submit separate applications to business school and law school, and satisfy each school's admissions requirements, including satisfactory scores on the GMAT and LSAT exams. Applicants may apply to business school and law school concurrently, or apply to one school during the first year of full-time enrollment in the other school (or the equivalent for part-time students). Students who seek to enter the joint program at some later point in their MBA or JD program require approval of the program coordinators in each school.

Students admitted concurrently to business and law school will enroll in one school and defer admission to the other school, depending upon where they decide to spend their first year (or the equivalent). Students will inform the appropriate admissions office to defer enrollment. Admission to Baruch may be deferred for up to three semesters, provided students have been registered in Brooklyn Law School or New York Law School during that time period. (Admissions records are kept for 18 months.) All students regardless of where they are registered should meet with the MBA and JD program coordinators to discuss the requirements for the joint program and complete a program worksheet.

Is Financial Aid Available?
Students should get in touch with the financial aid offices in both the law and business schools for information. Students cannot apply for financial aid through more than one school for the same period of enrollment.
