Year-round schools educational institutions are based on a schedule that has school throughout most of the calendar year, as opposed to having no school in summer. A motivation is that higher student throughput is accomplished via more effective scheduling of school resources. Are year-round schools a good idea?

The studies on year-round schooling are inconclusive. It is very difficult to assess the impacts of year-round schooling. While some studies have concluded there are benefits, others have found no measurable benefits.

Children with learning problems fall further behind and their learning problems are compounded when school districts rely on year-round calendar intersessions to remediate.

The intersessions are too little too late, say school districts that returned to a traditional school year after disappointing results on a year-round calendar. The calendar offers frequent two to three-week breaks during which at-risk children receive extra instructional time.
